Frijns op shortlist voor FIA Young Driver Excellence Academy

Robin Frijns hoort bij het groepje gegadigden voor een plek in de Young Driver Excellence Academy van de internationale autosportbond FIA. De Formule BMW-kampioen is niet de enige Nederlander op de shortlist. Rallycoureur Kevin Abbring maakt ook kans op de steun van de FIA.

Aan het hoofd van het programma om jong talent steun te geven staan oud Formule 1-coureur Alexander Wurz en voormalig rally co-rijder Robert Reid. Een driedaagse shootout waarbij de coureurs worden beoordeeld op fitness, prestaties, media-technieken, teamwork en psychologie bepalen welke tien coureurs de FIA in het programma opneemt.

Wurz: Het doet me deugd dat zoveel jonge coureurs zich aangemeld hebben voor het eerste jaar van de FIA Institute Academy. Het demonstreert dat dit soort opleiding gewenst is door jonge rijders die zich willen ontwikkelen en progressie willen boeken.

De shortlist voor de FIA Young Driver Excellence Academy bestaat naast Frijns en Abbring uit Hamad Ahmed Al Fardan, Paul-Loup Chatin, Albert Costa, Alon Day, Philipp Eng, Adam Gould, Timmy Hansen, Egon Kaur, Andreas Mikkelsen, Josef Newgarden, Norman Nato, Alexander Rossi, Jan Skala, Richie Stanaway, Molly Taylor, Stoffel Vandoorne en Joni Wiman.
