Silverstone mogelijk opnieuw geasfalteerd na geklaag over hobbels

Het circuit van Silverstone moet mogelijk weer opnieuw geasfalteerd worden nadat er tijdens het weekend voor de Grand Prix van Groot-Brittannië veelvuldig commentaar werd geleverd op het asfalt. Volgens de coureurs is het te hobbelig, ondanks dat het circuit onlangs opnieuw geasfalteerd is.

De asfaltlaag werd eerder dit jaar vervangen nadat MotoGP-rijders klaagden over het aantal hobbels op Silverstone. De aanpak lijkt niet succesvol te zijn geweest, want ook de Formule 1-coureurs konden het wegdek niet waarderen. Lewis Hamilton omschreef het nieuwe asfalt als 'het slechtste werk ooit' en vergeleek het met de huidige staat van de Nurburgring Nordschleife.

"Er zijn veel kleine plekken zichtbaar op Hangar Straight", aldus FIA-racedirecteur Charlie Whiting. "Je kunt zien dat de auto's daar de grond raakten. Het is erg ongebruikelijk. De hobbels zijn klein, maar het zijn er wel veel. Er moet naar gekeken worden. Als er werk verricht moet worden, dan denk ik dat het opnieuw geasfalteerd moet worden, maar dat is dan een taak voor het circuit."

Dan hebben ze nog tot 24 Augustus de tijd om dat te fixen, want dan gaan de cowboys weer los op Silverstone ;)
