Ericsson: "Verbeteren kwalificaties cruciaal voor mijn toekomst"

De Sauber-bolide van 2018 is een flinke stap beter dan haar voorgangers en dat merkt Marcus Ericsson ook. De Zweed heeft echter pas drie punten gescoord, terwijl teamgenoot Charles Leclerc er al 13 heeft. Volgens Ericsson zit het probleem vooral in de kwalificaties, zo vertelde hij aan Racer.com.

In Bahrein bereikte Ericsson Q3 en startte hij als negende, maar de Britse GP van afgelopen weekend is exemplarisch. Leclerc zette de auto in Q3, terwijl zijn teamgenoot de langzaamste was in Q2. Dat doet zijn kansen op punten geen goed en dat beseft Ericsson zich. "Ik moet een manier zoeken om me beter te kwalificeren. Dat heb ik nu een paar weekenden gezegd en dat is nog steeds de grootste uitdaging. Ik denk namelijk dat mijn racepace goed in de buurt van de rest zit. Met onze auto voel ik me erg op mijn gemak in de races en zijn we goed in het bandenmanagement."

"Ik geloof dat ik erg sterk ben in de races, als ik me dichterbij of in de top 10 kwalificeer", vervolgt Ericsson. "Voor mij en het team is dat nu het belangrijkste doel, naast het omzetten van feedback in vooruitgang. We moeten daaraan blijven werken, want dat is de sleutel naar het scoren van meer punten. Dat ga ik in de voorbereiding op de Grand Prix van Duitsland dan ook doen."

Nou dan nemen we alvast afscheid van je Marcus. Echt zonde dat deze paydriver al jaren één van de 20 zitjes bezet ten koste van echt talent. We moeten ruimte maken voor de nieuwe sterren van de toekomst.

Nee.. Het behouden van zijn sponsoren is belangrijk voor zijn toekomst. Dit seizoen valt hij verschrikkelijk door de mand.

Nou dan nemen we alvast afscheid van je Marcus. Echt zonde dat deze paydriver al jaren één van de 20 zitjes bezet ten koste van echt talent. We moeten ruimte maken voor de nieuwe sterren van de toekomst.

  Nieuwe talenten lijken zich al aan te dienen en Marcus staat tot nu toe zwaar achter tegen de rookie van het jaar, die wel laat zien wat de wagen kan. Geld zou de enige reden kunnen zijn dat een pay-driver als Marcus langer in de F1 verblijft, want ondanks zijn enthousiasme redt ie het niet.

Als Sauber serieus mee wil gaan doen, dan zullen ze 2 sterke coureurs moeten inzetten. Ik denk en hoop dat LeClerc nog een seizoen blijft en dat ze Giovanazzi de kans gaan geven

Mooi stukje zelfreflectie, ik denk ook dat je de kwali moet verbeteren, tegen leclerc kun je niet op, maar je bent zeker f1 waardig in mijn ogen.

  Dat meen ne niet Kampsie. Niet zo soft he! Marcus bakt er meestal maar weinig van. De Formule 1 is geen opvanghuis voor middelmatige autocoureurs. Hij hoort thuis in lagere klasses.

Soms hebben teams moeite de centjes bij elkaar te sprokkelen.
Dit rechtvaardigt het hebben van een paydriver.
Dat zie ik liever dan een team minder op de grid.
