Pierre Gasly verwacht fel gevecht met Sauber om achtste plek kampioenschap

Slechts drie punten liggen het team van Toro Rosso en Sauber uit elkaar in het constructeurskampioenschap. Sauber kent een veel beter jaar in vergelijking met recente jaren mede dankzij de sterke Ferrari-motor en supertalent Charles Leclerc. Toro Rosso-coureur Pierre Gasly verwacht dan ook niet dat het eenvoudig wordt om het Zwitserse team van zich af te houden in de rest van het seizoen.

Leclerc scoorde dit jaar al dertien punten en samen met de drie punten van Marcus Ericsson brengt dat de formatie op zestien punten en een voorlopig negende plaats in het kampioenschap. Gasly weet wel wat het verschil maakt tussen Toro Rosso en Sauber: "Sauber heeft met Ferrari een zeer sterke motor. Ook genieten zij de steun van de technische afdeling van Ferrari dankzij hun samenwerking met Alfa Romeo. Op vermogen verliezen wij het van Sauber, op het vlak van aerodynamica liggen wij nog iets voor."

Gasly's laatste puntenfinish dateert van de Grand Prix van Monaco, toen de Fransman knap zesde werd. Het wordt dan ook weer tijd dat er punten gescoord gaan worden: "Onze aerodynamische update is goed, echter hebben we het nadeel van de Honda-motor. Op snelle circuits verliezen we veel op de lange rechte stukken. Hopelijk kunnen we in Hongarije onze slag slaan, op langzame circuits doet Sauber het meestal wat minder goed. Desalniettemin verwacht ik een felle strijd met ze, het gaat niet eenvoudig worden om Sauber dit jaar te verslaan."

Kom, kom wat meer ambitie! Het seizoen is nog jong! Nog een paar top 8 finishes moeten er toch wel inzitten? Hartley moet toch ook wel en keer door zijn pech heen zijn!?

"Onze aerodynamische update is goed."
Die update heeft hij vorig weekend nog de grond in geboord.
"De updates werkten van geen kant, de wagen is slechter bestuurbaar."
Dit werd vervolgens door STR bevestigd.
Beetje gefrustreerd momenteel, omdat hij op het stoeltje van Ricciardo had gehoopt?

Een RB en TR rijder zeiden dat ze een seconde inleverden op de concurrenten (RB tegen Merc/Fer en TR tegen middenmoot) op de rechte stukken. Nou heeft RB een superieur chassis en TR een middelmatig chassis. En ook nog dat RB 2 toprijders heeft. Hmmmm.
