Bijna anderhalf procent meer televisiekijkers dan in 2009

Vorig jaar hebben maar liefst 527 miljoen mensen wereldwijd naar de Formule 1 gekeken blijkt uit recent onderzoek. Dit is een toename van 1,4% ten opzichte van een jaar eerder.

Waarschijnlijk is de toename in het aantal televisiekijkers veroorzaakt door de spannende strijd om de titel die pas in de allerlaatste race werd beslist. Ook is de Formule 1 in 2010 in meer landen uitgezonden dan in 2009. Afgelopen seizoen konden 187 landen zien hoe Sebastian Vettel voor het eerst wereldkampioen werd. Er werd in totaal 16.000 uur Formule 1 uitgezonden.

De Formule 1 is de best bekeken 'reguliere' sport te wereld. Alleen evenement zoals de Olympische Spelen en het Wereldkampioenschap voetbal trokken meer kijkers, maar deze worden slecht om de respectievelijk twee en vier jaar gehouden.

Bernie Ecclestone verwacht dat het aantal kijkers komend seizoen nog verder zal oplopen. Dan zal de Formule 1 voor het eerst te zien zijn in HD-kwaliteit.
