FIA-racedirecteur Whiting ziet niets in terugkeer naar oude DRS-regels

Charlie Whiting denkt niet dat een terugkeer naar de oude DRS-regels iets toe zal voegen aan het spektakel in de Formule 1. Volgens de FIA-racedirecteur is DRS bedoeld als hulp bij het inhalen, niet als iets dat overal gebruikt moet kunnen worden.

"Ik zie het nut niet", aldus Whiting over een terugkeer naar het oude DRS-reglement tegenover Crash.net. "Het enige wat je dan creëert zijn snellere rondetijden, meer niet. Het hele principe van DRS was om als hulp te dienen bij het inhalen."

Voorheen was het voor coureurs mogelijk om tijdens de kwalificatie de achtervleugel open te klappen wanneer zij dit wilden. Deze regel werd echter teruggedraaid, waarna coureurs ook tijdens de kwalificatie enkel nog in de DRS-zone gebruik konden maken van het systeem. 

"Rijders kunnen het tijdens de race gebruiken op plaatsen waar dat de bedoeling is en dat is volgens mij volstrekt logisch", vervolgt Whiting. "Ik zou er geen voorstander van zijn om terug te keren", besluit de FIA-racedirecteur.

    Wat waren de oude DRS regels dan? Kan me niet heugen dat het anders was dan voorheen.

    Ik zou zeggen: als je binnen een 1,5 seconde ben van je voorganger mag je vanaf de volgende sector DRS gebruiken wanneer je zelf wilt. Dan ga je pas leuke dingen zien, coureurs die het in een flauwe bocht durven te openen bijvoorbeeld. Risk & reward.

      @Alll, dat was enkel tijdens de kwalificatie en vrije trainingen, niet tijdens de race.

      Ik vind het hele DRS concept niet ok. Als je als coureur al binnen 1 sec achter je voorganger zit, laat het dan een eerlijk gevecht zijn met slipstreamen. Nu is het met DRS gewoon bekeken zaak, althans in de meeste gevallen.

    Dat heeft hij verkeerd. Ik zal het even uitleggen. Als je dan toch genoodzaakt bent DRS te hebben laat het dan vrij. Het is aan de coureur het toe te passen op welk stuk dan ook. Het effect/kracht van de DRS kan de organisatie instellen/ vooraf opleggen. De gepasseerde coureur kan zo direct reageren en proberen in te halen. Zo stimuleer je meer gevechten op de baan. Nu wordt iemand gewoon voorbij gereden op het rechte eind. Ik elk geval wil ik pleiten voor het afschaffen van DRS en grote vleugelpartijen. Zet kleinere vleugels op de wagens, herintroduceer ground effect en actieve wielophanging.

    Als dit soort trucjes (technische snufjes) er op zitten laat het dan lekker aan de coureur om te bepalen waar en wanneer hij er gebruik van maakt.. Geeft wel degelijk iets meer mogelijkheden.. Huidige principe is weer een dichtgetimmerd door een boekhouder verzonnen nauwelijks effectief systeem... Dit jaar zie je nog minder voordeel van DRS. Maar ja, kunnen de boekhoudertjes weer studeren of ze een derde DRS zone kunnen invoeren.. wat een flauwekul, geeft het vrij of sloop die troep er maar af...

    Een terugkeer zullen? Kom op zeg! Waar blijft de nieuwe redacteur met HB)-niveau? Dan kan die het knullige werk van de huidige stukjesschrijver corrigeren.

    Graag kwaliteit in plaats van kwantiteit. Dat geldt in het bijzonder ook voor inhoudelijke fouten zoals dat Alonso twee keer met Renault op Monaco zou hebben gewonnen, zoals onlangs werd geschreven.

    Het terugdraaien van vrijgebruik in de kwalificatie is positief. Al moet ik zeggen dat ik het eigenlijk in de kwalificatie eigenlijk helemaal zou zien verdwijnen. Liever zelf compleet weg ermee, dat zou pas echt positief zijn.
