Verzakkingen noodzaken circuit Sjanghai tot reparaties

Het Sjanghai International Circuit was de afgelopen jaren een vaste waarde op de Formule 1-kalender, maar voor 2011 staat de Grand Prix van China onder voorbehoud op het schema. Oorzaak daarvoor is dat drie bochten van de baan reparatiewerkzaamheden nodig hebben.

Dat is weer een gevolg van verzakkingen van de grond waarop het circuit ligt. Yang Yibin, manager van racepromotor Juss Event, deelt in Shanghai Daily mede: Het mag geen probleem vormen. We hebben alles goed gecommuniceerd met de FIA, het plan is goedgekeurd en de Grand Prix gaat gewoon door.

Het zou gaan om de bochten 1, 8 en 14. Sjanghai International Circuit is gebouwd op een drooggelegd moeras. Verzakkingen zijn normaal door de zachte ondergrond van Sjanghai waarop de baan is gebouwd, aldus Yang.
