Haas verschuift ontwikkeling naar volgend jaar

Haas-teambaas Guenther Steiner denkt een voorsprong te hebben op andere teams, door nu al met de ontwikkeling van de auto van 2019 beginnen. Er gaan volgend jaar grote veranderingen plaatsvinden, zoals een grotere voorvleugel en een diepere achtervleugel. Steiner wil niet achter de feiten aan komen te lopen, verklaart hij tegenover Eirsport.ie.

"We zijn een paar weken geleden gestart met de auto van volgend jaar en het heeft dan ook geen nut meer om de auto van dit jaar verder te ontwikkelen. Want wanneer we nu nog onderdelen gaan ontwikkelen, zijn ze pas klaar klaar wanneer we alweer richting het einde van het seizoen gaan. De vooruitgang daarvan is te weinig om te gaan gebruiken in de laatste paar races. We hebben nog wel een paar dingen, maar dat is het dan ook."

Die paar onderdelen worden de komende races ingezet. "Het zullen echter geen grote updates zijn, maar net als alle teams willen we niet achterblijven. We hebben geleerd om de updates te laten werken. Dat is een stap die we dit jaar hebben gezet ten opzichte van 2017."

"Bij reglementswijzigingen moet je echter iets frisser beginnen. Je moet je iets meer concentreren en onderdelen die we voor de auto van 2018 hebben ontwikkeld, kunnen we niet inzetten op de auto van 2019", aldus de geboren Italiaan.
