Zak Brown genoemd als mogelijke opvolger Bernie Ecclestone

Formule 1 marketing specialist Zak Brown wordt genoemd als een mogelijke opvolger van Bernie Ecclestone. De Amerikaan, die overigens dit weekend met zijn eigen team in Daytona's 24 uur racet samen met Martin Brundle en Mark Blundell, is verder de baas van Just Marketing die hiermee verschillende grote sponsoren binnen de Formule 1 vertegenwoordigt.

De Guardian schrijft dat de 39-jarige Brown, die met zijn bedrijf onder andere LG, Johnnie Walker en Lenovo vertegenwoordigt, het in zich heeft om de meest invloedrijke persoon van de Formule 1 te worden. Brown is momenteel al erg close met Ecclestone. De 80-jarige Brit was namelijk ook aanwezig tijdens de teampresentatie van Brown's Le Mans-team United Autosports.

Brown schuift alle berichten over de mogelijke vervanging van Ecclestone echter zo van tafel: "Dat is allemaal onzin. Ik denk dat het onmogelijk is om Bernie te vervangen. Ik zou het ook niet alleen kunnen doen, ik moet dan een heel team om me heen hebben. Ik weet bijvoorbeeld niks van televisiecontracten, maar dat kan ik wel leren."

"Ik wil voor altijd betrokken blijven in de autosport, dus als ik ooit de kans krijg om echt actief te worden in de Formule 1 zal ik die kans zeker niet laten liggen", aldus Brown.
