Brawn: "Ik hoop dat we een stadium bereiken dat DRS overbodig is'

De Formule 1 en Liberty Media presenteerden vrijdag in Singapore eerste ontwerpen voor de bolides die in 2021 over de circuits moeten scheuren. Gehoopt werd dat het Drag Reduction System daarmee verleden tijd zou worden, maar Ross Brawn kan dat niet garanderen.

Brawn heeft in het verleden aangegeven geen fan te zijn van DRS, net als veel coureurs en fans. Toch ziet de technische baas van de sport de noodzaak er van in. Aan Motorsport.com vertelde hij dat hij hoopt dat de openklappende achtervleugel vanaf 2021 niet meer nodig is, maar hij kan nog niets garanderen. "Ik denk dat we die in onze achterzak kunnen houden. Ik hoop dat we een stadium kunnen bereiken waar DRS niet meer zo hard nodig is."

"Het kan een erg handig, maar ook onhandig middel zijn als we uitvinden dat de auto's met elkaar kunnen knokken", vervolgt Brawn. "Inhalen moet daaruit voortkomen, maar een goed gevecht hebben is daarvoor cruciaal. Deze gevechten heb je niet als auto's elkaar niet kunnen volgen omdat ze veel bandenslijtage of verlies van snelheid hebben. Je kan ook een goed gevecht hebben als de auto vooraan op het einde nog steeds vooraan ligt."

"We hebben moeite gedaan om een onderscheid te maken tussen inhalen en tegen elkaar racen. Vaak vloeit inhalen voort uit tegen elkaar racen. Op Monza zag ik statistieken dat ongeveer de helft van de inhaalacties daar met DRS waren, terwijl de rest dus uit gevechten voorkwam. Er was dus genoeg actie, maar wat dat betreft is het een uniek circuit. We hebben meer circuits nodig waar auto's tegen elkaar kunnen strijden.

Ja hoor, weg met de DRS.

Een paar bloemenslingers op de auto´s en we kunnen kijken naar een bloemencorso.

Zolang als ze de voorvleugel niet drastisch vereenvoudigen kan F1 niet zonder dit hulpmiddel, triest maar waar.

De auto,s zullen dan drastisch veranderd moeten worden......zal dus niet gebeuren zolang de teams zoveel macht hebben.

Prachtig allemaal maar ik zou ook graag zien dat die halfautomatische versnellingsbak wordt opgedoekt. Dat heeft weinig met het edele ambacht van wagenbeheersing te maken. Coureurs moeten gewoon weer in d fout gedwongen worden.

Het zal misschien aan mij liggen hoor, maar is het niet juist andersom?!? De 1 rijdt 1.20, z'n achtervolger 1.19. Achtervolger komt binnen 1 sec, drs geactiveerd en hop, erop en erover. (Ok, zo gaat het niet altijd, maar vaak wél!)
Was er geen drs geweest, had hij 5-10 rondjes z'n best moeten doen om een wel doordachte aanval te plaatsen. Juist dóór drs zien we geen actie meer.
Per direct afschaffen die troep!! Laat ze het lekker zélf oplossen als ze iemand voorbij willen! Ze rijden dat niet voor niks. Koningsklasse vd autosport, maar ze hebben wel hulp nodig om iemand voorbij te komen?! Als wie dan ook uit 1 vd top 3 teams van achteruit moet starten, kijkt niemand ervan op dat hij iedereen inhaalt en in de top 5 finisht. 1-2 sec verschil in de auto, dus inhalen stelt weinig voor. Dat is met gelijkwaardige auto's, waarvan er 1 drs heeft, toch exact hetzelfde?
Juist zónder drs zou je gevechten krijgen. Juist dán krijg je gevechten op het scherpst vd snede.
