Giovinazzi rijdt in Rusland eerste vrije training voor Sauber

Antonio Giovinazzi zal dit weekend terugkeren in de cockpit van de Sauber C37. In Rusland gaat hij voor het Zwitserse team de eerste vrije training rijden, als onderdeel van het geplande programma dat hij heeft met Sauber. Dat betekent dat Marcus Ericsson vanaf de zijlijn moet toekijken. Dat meld Motorsportweek. Ook in Duitsland en Hongarije reed de Italiaan al een training voor het team.

Giovinazzi is ook nog steeds een kandidaat voor een zitje bij Sauber voor 2019. Vorig jaar reed hij ook al twee Grands Prix voor het team als vervanger van Pascal Wehrlein, die niet helemaal fit was.

Mocht de Italiaan een zitje kunnen bemachtigen voor 2019, dan zal hij de teamgenoot worden van Kimi Raikkonen. De Fin werd afgelopen maand al bevestigd als één van de racecoureurs voor volgend jaar.
