Hankook koopt Williams-auto om banden te testen

Hankook lijkt vastberaden te zijn om de nieuwe bandenleverancier te gaan worden in de Formule 1. Het Zuid-Koreaanse bedrijf strijdt samen met de huidige bandenleverancier van de Formule 1, Pirelli, om de officiële bandenleverancier van de koningsklasse van de autosport te worden vanaf 2020. 

Auto Motor und Sport meldt dat Hankook de ervaren Formule 1-ingenieur Hirohide Hamashima, die ook werkzaam is geweest voor Bridgestone, heeft aangesteld als adviseur. De FIA heeft aangegeven onder de indruk te zijn van het hoofdkwartier van Hankook in Daejeon. Het Zuid-Koreaanse bedrijf is geslaagd voor de eerste technische keuring. 

Hankook is zich ook aan het voorbereiden om zijn 2020-banden te ontwikkelen op het circuit. Ze zouden namelijk de Williams Cosworth uit 2011 en een omgebouwde Formule 2-auto hebben gekocht en daarnaast een Formule E-coureur hebben gestrikt. 

Concurrent Pirelli weet niet hoe lang het duurt voordat de FIA de beslissing gaat maken. "Er is geen deadline gezegd, dus ik kan niet zeggen hoelang het gaat duren voor we het weten."

    Heeft zo’n cosworth motor wel een vergelijkbaar karakter als de huidige pu’s? De huidige krachtbonnen hebben een enorm vermogen beschikbaar zonder dat er veel toeren gemaakt hoeven worden.

      Het is wel een heel andere auto. Dus in eerste instantie zou ik zeggen: Nee.

      Ik vindt het een vreemde keuze van Hankook, al weet je ook weer niet wat de regels zijn omtrent (ver-)koop van recentere auto's. Zo gezegd zou een eerste generatie V6 Turbo Williams dan een stuk dichter bij de huidige generatie auto's liggen.

      Tsja, vreemde keuze, maar ze zullen vast wel weten wat ze aan het doen zijn.

      Het enige wat dichtbij komt en niet recent is, is een 2004 wagen met veel vleugel gezet.

      Het is een test traject. Het is niet meteen een benchmark zetten waar je het eindproduct op vastlegt. Daarvoor heb je dus niet perse een recente auto nodig om de eerste tests uit te voeren. Daarna, ja dan moet je wel iets recenters hebben waarmee je kan gaan finetunen naar je eindproduct.

      volgens mij mag je al een 2014 auto gebruiken voor zulke doeleinden....die komt het dichtst bij een 2004 auto is qua topvermogen vergelijkbaar maar totaal niet in koppel en daar wringt letterlijk de band....

      Geen enkel team verkoopt auto s uit het V6 tijdperk voor zover ik weet. De motoren zijn te complex en te duur om te draaien. Het is niet alleen maar vanwege het geluid dat demo’s alleen met de pre turbo auto’s worden gereden.

    Het zou leuk zijn wanneer we 2 (of meer) bandenleveranciers hebben. Ook goed voor de strijd! En Hankook doet het in de andere klasses ook erg goed, dus ze kunnen er wel wat van.

    Goed om te zien dat Hankook daadwerkelijk ook een programma gestart is. De auto's zijn niet vergelijkbaar met nu, maar het gaat ook om een test traject. Dus men kan al veel leren, ook van een 2011 auto.
    Bovendien, persoonlijke mening, vind ik het fijn dat je Hankook nergens in nieuwsberichten naar voren ziet komen dat het erg geïnteresseerd is om deel te nemen en dan daar vervolgens over op te scheppen of eisen te gaan stellen. Nee, ze zeggen we willen graag meedoen, gaan nu het test traject in en dan zien ze wel of ze werkelijk zich gaan inschrijven. Kan Michelin wat van leren met hun grootspraak en alle eisen.

    Hadden Ferrari/Mercedes/RB geen testmule die ze in 2017 gebruikten op overschot? die zouden toch ideaal zijn imo

    Hoezo lullig voor de FIA. Die hadden de sponsor contracten al klaar liggen met Pirelli incl de snoepreisjes voor de hoge heren, komt Hankook om de hoek kijken. Zelfs door het zo onaantrekkelijk te maken als ze maar konden. Dus Hankook moet nu voor 1 jaar de 13 inch banden maken en daarna de 18 Inch varianten.....
