Vandoorne: "Suzuka bijna net zo leuk als Spa en daarnaast moeilijker"

Spa-Francorchamps wordt door veel coureurs gezien als het mooiste circuit van de wereld en als Belg geldt dat voor Stoffel Vandoorne natuurlijk nog wat meer. Toch moet hij toegeven dat het circuit van Suzuka, waar aankomend weekend gereden wordt, bijna net zo leuk is.

"Als het gaat om het pure genot van het rijden in een Formule 1-wagen, behoort Suzuka tot een van de beste circuits ter wereld. Natuurlijk hoort Spa-Francorchamps daar ook bij, voor mij als Belgische coureur, maar Suzuka is bijna net zo leuk en het is waarschijnlijk nog moeilijker", zegt Vandoorne tegenover Motorsport.

Daarnaast vindt hij het er ook heel uitdagend. "Het is zo’n plek waar je niet een unieke bocht hebt met een bepaald karakter, het hele circuit is verschrikkelijk uitdagend. De S-bochten in de eerste sector zijn een grote uitdaging, de Degners zijn extreem snel en onvergefelijk. Daarnaast is Spoon een echte old-school bocht waar je constant over de limiet moet gaan. In iedere ronde is het zaak om de lat hoger te leggen voor jezelf."

Japan is hoe dan ook speciaal voor Vandoorne. "De sfeer rond de Japanse Grand Prix is altijd fantastisch en surreëel. Ik heb tijdens mijn periode in Super Formula geleerd dat de Japanse fans heel gepassioneerd zijn over deze sport. Het weekend in Suzuka draait altijd op fun en positiviteit. Ik kijk er echt heel erg naar uit."

      Stoffel neemt het hele seizoen al alle tijd voor de fans op de tribunes, soms deelt hij zelfs handtekeningen uit tijdens het rijden#netjes.

    Suzuka wordt toch algemeen beschouwd als het mooiste circuit van de kalender?
    Los van een paar top bochten in Spa is het daar toch zoals veel anders dan andere circuits.

      Ja klopt wel, Spa en Suzuka zijn echte ´rijders´ banen. Al vind ik Spa een iets te lang recht stuk hebben. Als ze daar nog een paar bochten kunnen aanleggen is het zeker gelijkwaardig aan Suzuka.

      Spa is extra uitdagend door de hoogteverschillen. Vooral in de bocht bruxelles is het kippenvel krijgen in de wagen. En dan natuurlijk de dubbele linkse waar je zoveel snelheid hebt door het afdalen.

      Komt door de bonensoep dat ie u tegen je zegt ...

      ff zonder gekheid , Stoffel heeft eigenlijk maar twee fouten gemaakt t afgelopen jaar .

      1 hij had zn mond moeten opentrekken en met de vuist op tafel moeten slaan .
      2 Hij had zn auto een keer helemaal in de prak moeten rijden .

      Ik denk nog steeds dat Vandoorne zichzelf heeft laten piepelen door politieke spelletjes , het kan niet ineens zo zijn dat hij zn snelheid compleet kwijt is .
