Marcus Ericsson in gesprek met Carlin voor IndyCar zitje

Marcus Ericsson en Trevor Carlin zijn in gesprek voor een IndyCar-stoeltje voor 2019. Een goede vriend van Ericsson, Max Chilton, zou Carlin getipt hebben om met Ericsson en zijn consorten in gesprek te gaan.

Carlin wil per 2019 een derde auto toevoegen aan hun huidige twee auto-operatie. Carlin heeft met Chilton sowieso een goede coureur in dienst, die goed is voor veel sponsorgeld De komst van Ericsson zou voor Carlin de mogelijkheid openen een kwaliteitscoureur toe te voegen aan zijn line-up, een coureur die niet over de maximale sponsorgelden beschikt.

Ericsson is na het wegvallen als race-coureur bij Sauber op zoek naar alternatieven: "Ik zie het wel zitten, ik denk dat IndyCar voor mij attractief kan zijn." Hij gaat verder: "We praten met verschillende teams en het is een realistisch doel. Maar ik ben ook in gesprek met andere teams in andere raceklassen. Formule 1 is voor mij natuurlijk de prioriteit en ik zie mezelf terugkomen in de Formule 1 als ik er in 2019 uit ben geweest. Via de IndyCar Series is dat natuurlijk de beste manier om dat te doen."

Ericsson zal in deze situatie geadviseerd worden door oud Formule 1 en Indycar-coureur Stefan Johansson. De Zweed zorgde er vorige week voor dat Felix Rosenqvist bij Chip Ganassi Racing werd ondergebracht. Ericsson en Carlin hebben in het verleden al samengewerkt tijdens de Grand Prix van Macau in 2008. Voor 2009 zou Ericsson Formule 3 Euroseries gaan rijden voor Carlin, maar de Zweed besloot het Japanse kampioenschap te rijden. Achteraf de beste keuze voor Ericsson, hij werd in 2009 kampioen in die klasse.

  aantal doden in de F1: 52: waarvan 7 eigenlijk niet meetellen omdat die op de Indianapolis oval waren in de tijd dat die race deel uitmaakte van het F1 WK en dat waren ook allemaal Amerikanen uit de Indycar

  Ok en waarom denk je dat ? Of waar baseer je dat op. Er rijden daar een paar 3de rangs rijders die je zo de deur in douwe en klaar ben je. hij zelf is ook geen hoogvlieger en komt gewoon veel te kort. Maar het is wel een toffe gast lijkt me. Indy car, als hij slim is gaat hij dat niet doen. Wens hem alle succes.

  Rossi was ook geen hoogvlieger...Doet het nu meer dan aardig in Indycar. Staat in de picture, groot exposure, lekker racen en nog flink wat dollars op de rekening.
