Pirelli gaat uit van tweestopper tijdens Mexicaanse GP

De coureurs gaan tijdens de Grand Prix van Mexico hoogstwaarschijnlijk twee keer de pits bezoeken. Dat is de verwachting die Pirelli voorafgaand aan de race uitgesproken heeft.

Pirelli lag, vooral tijdens de vrije trainingen op vrijdag, behoorlijk onder vuur door de hoge slijtage van met name de hypersofts. De top 6 besloot daardoor in de kwalificatie om in Q2 de ultrasofts te gebruiken, terwijl de coureurs van Renault en Sauber wel vast zitten aan de hypersofts. De overige coureurs hebben vrije bandenkeuze voor de race van 71 ronden.

Voor de race heeft Pirelli berekend dat een tweestopper de snelste strategie is. Mannen op ultrasoft zullen in ronde 9 binnenkomen en vervolgens twee stints van 31 ronden op de supersofts rijden. Coureurs die op de hypersofts beginnen, komen al na vijf ronden binnen en doen vervolgens twee stints op supersofts van 33 ronden.

Een eenstopper is volgens Mario Isola van Pirelli niet onmogelijk, maar dat vereist wel een heel sterk bandenmanagement. "Er zijn veel strategieën beschikbaar voor de race, met een tweestopper die het snelste is maar ook een kleine mogelijkheid voor een eenstopper. Dat kan alleen als de hypersoft heel zorgvuldig gebruikt wordt. De wisselende omstandigheden zorgen wel voor een aantal open vragen, waardoor het beter is om de strategische opties open te houden.

In de laatste alinea staat:"Dat kan alleen als de hypersoft heel zorgvuldig gebruikt wordt." Zal wel moeten zijn "ultrasoft" neem ik aan.
Wel verwarrend allemaal. Zelfs voor 'kenners'.

  Ja precies, eerst zeggen ze dat een twee stopper het sneller is dan US en SS en daarna zeggen ze dat je ook een één stopper kan doen met de Hyper. Verkeerd vertaald of ze zijn gek geworden bij Pirelli.

Als Pirelli roept tweestopper wordt het zeker een éénstopper. In ieder geval voor de teams die starten op ultra’s. Misschien dat Mercedes het weer lastig krijgt, maar Red Bull gaat zeker een éénstopper doen.

De diverse weersites spreken elkaar nogal tegen. Van 70% kans op regen om 14u tot droog en zon. Iemand een secure voorspelling?

Renault en Sauber zouden nog wel eens de enige zijn die op de hypers starten.
Denk dat ze daar best veel pijn van kunnen krijgen. Force India wilde ook niet in Q3 raken op de hyper banden. Zij kozen bewust om met de ultra band in Q2 Q3 te halen.
Ik denk ook niet dat we de hypersofts later in de race nog gaan zien, die is na 5 a 6 rondjes al klaar.
