Vettel ziet deelname aan Le Mans na Formule 1-carrière zitten

Sebastian Vettel sluit niet uit dat hij na zijn carrière in de Formule 1 een overstap maakt richting het WEC en de 24 uur van Le Mans. Tegenover Motorsport-Total vertelde de Ferrari-coureur dat zijn race-carrière er nog niet op hoeft te zitten als hij tijd in de Formule 1 ten einde komt.

Vettel is dit jaar 31 geworden en daardoor dus ook niet meer het jonge broekie die in 2007 de Formule 1 bestormde. Toch is ook nog lang niet klaar in de Formule 1. De viervoudig wereldkampioen gaf in het gesprek met Motorsport-Total aan dat hij zat plannen heeft voor na de Formule 1, maar dat hij niet uit de doeken wil doen welke plannen dat zijn. "Er zijn veel dingen die ik nog wil doen. De ideeën zijn er en sommige hebben niets te maken met de Formule 1, maar deze hou ik liever voor mezelf."

Een van de dingen op dat lijstje kan deelname aan de 24 uur van Le Mans zijn. Vettel wil daar zelf niet veel over kwijt, hoewel de variatie aan coureurs in die tak van racen hem wel aanspreekt. "Daar race je niet alleen tegen coureurs van 40 jaar en ouder, maar ook tegen jonge talenten."

Vettels huidige teamgenoot, Kimi Raikkonen, tekende onlangs een tweejarig contract bij Sauber. De Fin zal daardoor tot zijn 41e in de Formule 1 te zien zijn. Vettel ziet zichzelf op die leeftijd niet meer in de koningsklasse van de autosport rijden. "Dat is pas over tien jaar, ongeveer net zo lang als mijn huidige carrière in de Formule 1. Als ik het snel uitreken, moet ik tegen die tijd op 400 Grands Prix zitten. Zeg nooit nooit, maar ik zie dat liever niet gebeuren."

Volgend jaar 2019 zal voor Vettel al een cruciaal jaar worden, want het geduld raakt op bij de Italianen en Ferrari. Ook zal hij beter, sneller en zonder foutjes moeten gaan racen om zijn teammaat te verslaan en mee te doen in de race met Hamilton. Als het niet lukt dan kan zijn tijd in de F1 sneller voorbij zijn dan hij zelf denkt. Onder grotere druk zal Vettel niet beter presteren en weer de fout in gaan. Ook Max zal hem op de huid zitten of hij mag als de Honda PU goed presteert achter hem aan rijden.

  Vettel reageert de laatste tijd al niet zo positief op Ferrari, en andersom, en met dit soort uitspraken erbij zie ik hem zijn contract uitdienen bij Ferrari en het is klaar met F1.

  Wat me blijft verbazen is dat jullie zoveel weten over iemand die jullie totaal niet kennen, noch zijn relatie met het team. Of de verhouding tov zijn nieuwe teamgenoot. Voorals nog heeft die nog alles te bewijzen, en Vettel niet meer. Daarbij, Lec rijdt momenteel nou ook niet echt veel beter als Eri. Dat is niet echt bepaald een hoogvlieger... Dus of de Sauber is zo goed geworden, of hoe goed is Lec echt?! We zullen zien volgend jaar... Net als dat Max wel ''even'' met doet om het kampioenschap, ik hoor het elk jaar, en elk jaar is het weer bedrog :P

Volgens mij willen ze in een korte termijn, hypercars gebruiken ipv lmp1 en 2.
Hopelijk laten ze autos zoals, Ferrari FXXK evo, MB AMG One, ASM valkery, mclaren senna, etc deelnemen.

  Ik vermoed dat hij sowieso wel terug gaat naar RBR, ze zijn bij RBR nog steeds erg gecharmeerd van Vettel. Daarnaast heeft RBR de juiste sfeer en mentaliteit voor Vettel. Kan een win-win situatie zijn.
