Hülkenberg crasht op vrijdag: "Eenmaal op het gras was ik slechts passagier"

Nico Hülkenberg maakte geen goede beurt in de tweede vrije training voor de Grand Prix van Brazilië. De Duitser crashte bij het uitkomen van de laatste bocht en daarvoor stak hij de hand in eigen boezem.

Hülkenbergs bolide liep veel schade op toen hij bij het uitkomen van de laatste bocht op het gras terecht kwam. Daar had hij geen grip, waarna hij hard in de vangrails klapte. De rechterflank van zijn Renault liep veel schade op, maar de versnellingsbak en krachtbron bleven schadeloos. Doordat Hülkenberg al vroeg in de sessie crashte, kon hij geen racesimulatie rijden op Interlagos.

"Bij het uitkomen van de laatste bocht ging ik iets te wijd over de kerbstones, want waarschijnlijk wilde ik iets teveel", verklaarde Hülkenberg zijn crash. "De bodemplaat raakte de grond en vanaf dat punt was ik een passagier. Het raken van de grond zorgde ervoor dat ik echt wijd en het gras op ging. Op het gras was natuurlijk geen grip, dus toen was het wel duidelijk dat ik de muur zou raken. Dat is jammer en frustrerend. Natuurlijk is het niet ideaal om op vrijdag te crashen, dat is niet wat ik wil, maar helaas gebeurde dat vandaag."

Hülkenberg verwacht een lastig weekend in Brazilië. "Ik denk dat we er niet zo competitief uitzien als in Austin en in Mexico. Dat hadden we deels al verwacht, want dit circuit is een grotere uitdaging voor ons met de balans van onze auto. Er ligt een uitdagend weekend voor ons."

Poeh als je het beeld zag van de baas Renault... die wees gelijk wat boos naar het scherm en stond erop te prikken. Die zou wel gedacht hebben van "nou, kom ik ook eens een keertje kijken. Zie dat dan!"

Hulkie je mag gerust zeggen dat de motor ruk is en vermogen tekort komt hier hoor.
