Fittipaldi als reserve van Haas F1 bij alle races aanwezig in 2019

Pietro Fittipaldi is in 2019 de vaste reservecoureur van Haas F1 Team. In Abu Dhabi zal de kleinzoon van tweevoudig wereldkampioen Emerson voor het eerst in actie komen voor het Amerikaanse team.

Haas had Fittipaldi eerder dit jaar al in het vizier, maar tijdens het WEC-weekend in Spa-Francorchamps brak hij ongelukkig zijn benen. Nu de Braziliaan goed hersteld is van die blessure, durft Haas het aan om hem in het diepe te gooien. Fittipaldi zal in 2019 als reservecoureur bij alle races aanwezig zijn, terwijl hij ook geregeld in de simulator van Haas in Maranello zal plaatsnemen. Daarvoor zal de 22-jarige naar Maranello verhuizen.

Haas-teambaas Günther Steiner benadrukt bij Globo dat Fittipaldi geen betalende coureur is, maar dat hij ingehuurd is door het team. "Wij hebben hem aangetrokken. Dat gaat ons helpen bij de ontwikkeling tijdens het seizoen. We zijn in contact gebleven en hebben hem gevolgd tijdens zijn revalidatie. Hij gaat een belangrijke rol binnen het team spelen."

Ook Fittipaldi is blij dat een kans krijgt in de Formule 1. "Dit is een grote stap. Ik wel al met het team in Interlagos en in Abu Dhabi beginnen we ons te ontwikkelen voor het kampioenschap van 2019. Er is nog niets besloten over vrije trainingen, want dat hangt af van hoe het team presteert. Het is wel een optie. Voor elk raceweekend gebruik ik op donderdag de simulator in Maranello en dan vlieg ik donderdagavond naar de races."

  Maar over Pietro Fittipaldi zelf.... Hij heeft een aardige carrière tot nu toe.... Niet meteen een hoogvlieger, maar zou misschien best een aardige carrière in de F1 kunnen gaan maken....

  Hij had zijn benen gebroken. Niet bijna verzopen. Dus wat is er op tegen om hem in het diepe te gooien.

  Chapeau Lobster, je bent scherper dan ik (pas maar op, je kunt je lelijk verwonden aan zoiets scherps). Het was een grapje, en in mijn oren klonk het als "in de diepte" meer dan als in HET diepe. En je hebt gelijk, met herstellende gebroken benen is het net goed om in het diepe te worden gegooid... zwemmen is goed voor de spieren en belast de botten niet! Goed gezien bij Haas.

Kan hij wel reservecoureur worden als hij niet genoeg superlicentie punten heeft?

In het officiele bericht van Haas werd ook niet gesproken over reserve, maar alleen over testrijder.

  Een sim coureur hoeft geen licentie te hebben. Als je daarmee uit de bocht vliegt kun je gewoon reboot doen. Ongevaarlijk spelletje.

  Trouwens willen ze hem wel als reserve coureur inzetten in de weekenden dat Eriksson verplichtingen in de IndyCar heeft. Dat roept dus wel vraagtekens op.

  Big_Ei. Eriksson rijd volgend jaar een compleet seizoen IndyCars en is inderdaad reserve bij Sauber. Echter er zijn 8 weekenden waarin beide klassen gelijktijdig racen. Eriksson kan zich niet in tweeën splitsen. Dus moet er dan een andere reserve klaarstaan.
