Hülkenberg: "Punten in Abu Dhabi als afsluiting van memorabel jaar"

Renault heeft een goede uitgangspositie om de vierde plaats bij de constructeurs in Abu Dhabi veilig te stellen. Nico Hülkenberg hoopt met een puntenfinish bij te dragen aan het binnenhalen van die positie.

Renault staat in het kampioenschap voor constructeurs nu 24 punten voor op Haas F1 Team. Aangezien de top 6 in een normale race buiten bereik is voor beide teams, lijkt Renault al zeker te zijn van die vierde positie. Toch wil Hülkenberg niet voorbarig zijn: hij wil in Abu Dhabi punten scoren en op die manier de vierde positie bij de constructeurs veiligstellen.

"Abu Dhabi is de laatste jaren het decor geweest voor de laatste race en het is absoluut een goede plek om het jaar af te ronden. Er staat nog veel op het spel in het constructeurskampioenschap. Vorig jaar ging was het strijd tot de vlag en hoewel we iets meer speling hebben, weten we dat we aan de slag moeten en dat alles kan gebeuren. Ik kijk ernaar uit en ik mik op solide punten om een memorabel jaar op een positieve manier af te sluiten."

Over het hele seizoen 2018 is Hülkenberg tevreden, maar volgend jaar wil hij meer. "2018 was een goed opbouwjaar. Mijn tweede seizoen bij Renault draaide om progressie en het voortzetten van het plan dat het team uitgestippeld heeft. De start van het jaar was geweldig en we verdienen de vierde positie. Vrijwel het hele jaar waren wij het vierde team, dus in Abu Dhabi moeten we het karwei afmaken. Als coureur geef je alles voor betere resultaten. We hebben een aantal goede resultaten gehad, maar onze volgende stap is dat we nog beter willen."
