Vooruitblik op de Grand Prix van Abu Dhabi

De Grand Prix van Abu Dhabi wordt dit weekend inmiddels alweer voor de tiende keer verreden en zeven keer was het de laatste Formule 1- race van het seizoen. Het is dit jaar de race waar vele verhalen eindigen. De laatste race van het seizoen, Ricciardo verlaat na 100 races Red Bull Racing en Alonso verlaat de Formule 1.

Er staat tijdens de Grand Prix niet veel op het spel. De kampioenschappen zijn al verdeeld, echter staat er voor Renault en Haas nog wel wat op het spel. De teams strijden nog om de vierde plaats in het constructeurskampioenschap.

In 2006 was de goedkeuring er om het circuit te bouwen in het oosten van Abu Dhabi. In 2007 werd het eerste asfalt gelegd en het project was een paar maanden voor de eerste race in 2009 af. De race op het circuit van de Verenigde Arabische Emiraten werd voor het eerst gereden in 2009. Het circuit was gebouwd als een nieuwe toeristische attractie.

Een rondje om het circuit van de seizoensafsluiter van de Formule 1 duurt 1:40.279, de snelste tijd gereden door Vettel in 2009. De raceafstand is 305,4 kilometer. Het circuit heeft een lengte van 5,55 kilometer, wat er dus op neer komt dat er 55 rondjes worden gereden.

Na de race zullen er ook vele relaties eindigen. Red Bull Racing-Renault wordt volgend seizoen Red Bull Racing-Honda. De Oostenrijkse renstal heeft in een twaalfjarige relatie met Renault vele diepte- en hoogtepunten gekend, maar de relatie werd steeds wantrouwiger. Daarop besloot Red Bull Racing naar Honda over te stappen. Charles Leclerc verruilt Sauber voor Ferrari en Kimi Raikkonen doet het omgekeerde. Ricciardo gaat na 100 races voor Red Bull Racing en na 150 races in de Formule 1 te hebben gereden, het Oostenrijkse team verruilen voor het fabrieksteam van Renault. McLaren-coureur Fernando Alonso maakt na deze race een (voorlopig) einde aan zijn Formule 1-carrière. De Spanjaard rijdt al een paar jaar voor spek en bonen mee in de koningsklasse. Ook zijn teamgenoot Vandoorne verlaat de Formule 1. Esteban Ocon heeft tot nu toe ook nog geen stoeltje voor volgend seizoen.

Formule 2-rijders Lando Norris, Antonio Giovinazzi en George Russell gaan de opstapklasse verruilen voor de koningsklasse. Pierre Gasly neemt de plek van Ricciardo over bij Red Bull Racing en Daniil Kvyat neemt in 2019 het zitje van Gasly over bij Toro Rosso. Wie er naast de 24-jarige Rus komt te rijden is niet duidelijk.

Zou al mooi zijn als Maxi Bottas nog weet te pakken op de ranglijst, ik zou het echt een wereldprestatie vinden.... In juli dacht ik nog dat hij al kansloos was ten opzichte van Ricciardo...

  Lewis pakt volgens mij bijna zeker een gridstraf vanwege een motorwissel. Dit betekent automatisch dat de weg voor Bottas vrij wordt gemaakt. De race zal gaan tussen Bottas, Verstappen en Vettel in mijn ogen.

Ik heb liever in het vooruitblik de race tijden of een update van de race tijden, nu staan de tijden van Interlagos nog rechts in beeld :-(

  Een tijd geleden kregen we hier altijd een mooi overzicht per race
  met allerlei gegevens over de race van vorig jaar met
  bv hoeveel inhaalacties en zoals jij zegt safetycar percentage etc.
  Jammer dat dat nooit meer wordt geplaatst.
