Raikkonen test in Abu Dhabi voor Sauber

Frederic Vasseur, de teambaas van Sauber, heeft bevestigd dat Kimi Raikkonen volgende week zal rijden tijdens de bandentest op het Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi. De Fin komt in 2019 uit voor het Zwitserse team en mag de auto van dit jaar dus al even aan de tand voelen.

Het was al bekend dat Sauber er alles aan wilde doen om Raikkonen te kunnen laten testen tijdens de bandentest in Abu Dhabi. Op de vraag van Crash of de Fin zou gaan testen voor zijn nieuwe team, antwoordde Vasseur op de vrijdag in Abu Dhabi: "Ja, hij gaat volgende week voor ons testen."

Het wordt Raikkonen's eerste keer in de auto van Sauber sinds de Japanse Grand Prix van 2001. Dat was zijn debuutseizoen in de Formule 1, waarna hij in 2002 overstapte naar het team van McLaren.

Raikkonen is één van de vele coureurs die gaat rijden voor zijn nieuwe team. Charles Leclerc gaat bijvoorbeeld juist testen voor Ferrari, terwijl het de bedoeling is dat Pierre Gasly gaat testen voor Red Bull Racing. Daniil Kvyat keert terug bij Toro Rosso, terwijl Lance Stroll voor het eerst gaat testen met Force India. Donderdag werd al bekend dat Carlos Sainz in actie komt voor McLaren.
