'Pirelli laat de supersoft uit de 2019-bandenselectie'

Er wordt deze dagen, tijdens de testsessie in Abu Dhabi, niet op de supersoft-band gereden. De tweedaagse test vindt plaats op de plek waar dit weekend ook de Grand Prix gereden werd. Om te zorgen dat de teams geen nieuwe onderdelen testen, mogen alleen onderdelen gebruikt worden waar ooit mee is geracet. De teams krijgen 22 setjes en de 2018 en 2019-banden zijn beschikbaar.

Wat dus enorm opviel is dat de rode supersoft-band niet bij de selectie zat. Dit kan wellicht betekenen dat de supersoft dus niet meer bij de bandenselectie zit voor 2019. De rode band was de derde zachtste band en was ideaal voor trage en bochtige circuits. Er komt ook een back-up band. Die band krijgt geen kleur en ook geen Pirelli-logo. Afgelopen weekend werd bekend dat de rubberfabrikant een nieuwe verbintenis met de Formule 1 heeft gemaakt, wat inhoudt dat ze tot 2023 de bandenleverancier zijn.

De Italiaanse bandenfabrikant liet al eerder weten over te gaan op een nieuwe nummering. Hier de lijst:

Kleur / Oud / Nieuw

Blauw / Hard / Nummer 1
Wit / Medium / Nummer 2
Geel / Soft / Nummer 3
Paars / Ultrasoft / Nummer 4
Zwart / - / Nummer 4 (back-up)
Roze / Hypersoft / Nummer 5

De natweerbanden zijn niet meegenomen naar Abu Dhabi. Vroeger deden ze dit wel en werden delen van de baan nat gemaakt om de regen na te bootsen.

Mercedes lijkt tijdens de laatste Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi een meesterlijke slag te hebben geslagen. De Duitse renstal heeft extra sensoren op de auto van Hamilton geïnstalleerd, wat betekent dat het team er tijdens de test gebruik van mag maken.

Slimme zet van Mercedes, vreemd dat een ander team hier niet op gekomen is. Of zou later blijken dat meerdere teams dit hebben gedaan?

Kan iemand mij uitleggen wat het voordeel van die extra sensoren is? De banden van volgend jaar identiek, buiten dat ze misschien van een andere structuur zijn (zachter/harder). De luchtstroom blijft daardoor dan toch ook hetzelfde?

  De sensoren zijn geplaatst op de vloer, net voor het achterwiel. Het is de verwachting dat in 2019 juist op die plek de luchtstromen een belangrijke rol gaan spelen.

  Ik vraag me ook af of het nut heeft voor de andere teams.
  Mercedes heeft nu het probleem dat de banden snel slijten en misschien niet duidelijk hebben hoe de luchtstromen daar langs zijn.
  
  Nu kunnen ze voor volgend jaar niet echt testen hoe het met die nieuwe onderdelen zit, aangezien ze nog niet de nieuwe vleugel enzo mogen monteren.
  
  Oftewel, geen idee.

  Andere site's hebben het over 5 pitotpijpjes rond het achterwiel. Deze zijn dus speciaal voor de luchtstromen. De temp wordt met lasers gemeten.

  Duidelijk...maar wat is het voordeel daarvan?
  Ze rijden niet met onderdelen voor volgend seizoen, de luchtstroom zal dan anders zijn.
  De banden zijn qua formaat niet anders, dus wat het nut er precies van is, is mij nog niet duidelijk.
  Maar zoals ik al zei...ik ben maar een leek.;)
