Ericsson ziet weinig nut in zijn reserverol bij het team van Sauber

Marcus Ericsson heeft gezegd dat hij niet veel nut ziet in zijn rol als reserverijder voor het team van Sauber. De Zweed is zich aan het focussen op zijn IndyCar-avontuur van volgend jaar en gelooft dat zijn rol als reserverijder nutteloos gaat zijn, omdat hij in de IndyCar moet rijden op de momenten dat hij nodig is.

Sauber heeft echter al gezegd dat ze ook nog op zoek zijn naar een andere reserverijder, die Ericsson eventueel kan assisteren.

"We moeten na het seizoen nog steeds met elkaar gaan zitten en het bespreken, omdat ik het zeker duidelijk heb gemaakt dat ik me honderd procent op mijn race-programma van 2019 wil focussen en ik wil er in de IndyCar helemaal voor gaan", zegt Ericsson tegenover Autosport.

"Ik ben nog steeds blij dat ik met Sauber verbonden blijf, maar ik moet nog kijken wat ik precies ga doen en wat mijn rol gaat zijn. Maar mijn focus moet natuurlijk voor honderd procent bij de IndyCar liggen, aangezien het anders geen zin heeft om daarheen te gaan. Ik heb wellicht mijn laatste race in de Formule 1 al gereden, maar ik sluit een terugkeer ook weer niet uit."
