Ecclestone wilde het circuit van Silverstone kopen

Bernie Ecclestone zegt dat hij het circuit van Silverstone heeft willen kopen. Het Britse circuit was echter niet geïnteresseerd. De Grand Prix van Groot-Brittannië loopt gevaar, omdat het contract met het circuit aan het eind van volgend seizoen afloopt en er geen haast lijkt te worden gemaakt met een nieuw contract.

"Het zou mooi zijn als er een Britse Grand Prix gehouden blijft worden. Ze zouden een overeenkomst kunnen sluiten, maar ik denk dat ze met een idee moeten komen om de verliezen of winsten of iets dergelijks te delen", zegt Ecclestone. 

"Silverstone moet zich comfortabel voelen. Ik heb ze namelijk gevraagd of ze het circuit wilden verkopen, want dan had ik het gekocht, maar ze wilden het niet verkopen en waren niet geïnteresseerd. Ik zou er overigens niet direct bij betrokken zijn."

Ecclestone gaat verder. "We zouden de race natuurlijk kunnen hebben, maar ze willen het niet verkopen. Dus ze voelen zich comfortabel. Ze zijn niet wanhopig, maar ze moeten een Formule 1-race hebben", aldus de oud Formule 1-baas tegenover Autosport.

      Ja, dat denk ik ook.. Bernie was/is altijd wel een goede onderhandelaar. Hij heeft de sport groot gemaakt en naar ons toe gebracht.. (hij is niet zomaar een eigenaar die van beroep eigenaar is..(van de F1 of welk bedrijf dan ook.. hij kent het ook vanuit coureur en teambaas view) Natuurlijk lukte niet alles wat hij deed maar dat krijg je bij het nemen van risico's... Het was figuurlijk zeker geen grijze muis.. gelukkig!!!

    Laat Bernie maar lekker van Silverstone afblijven, want de kans is groot dat als hij het koopt LM het zsm van de kalender haalt.
