Positieverbetering wordt moeilijk voor Sauber

In 2017 eindigde het team van Sauber nog als laatste bij de constructeurs, maar dat werd verbeterd naar een achtste plek in het afgelopen jaar. De teambaas van het Zwitserse team, Frederic Vasseur, verwacht echter dat het moeilijk gaat worden om die positie volgend jaar opnieuw te verbeteren. 

"Om van de tiende positie naar naar de achtste positie te gaan is veel makkelijker dan van de achtste positie naar de zesde positie of van de zesde positie naar de vierde positie. Ik weet dat het iedere keer moeilijker zal worden om te klimmen", zegt Vasseur tegenover FormulaPassion.

"We zullen echter de beschikking gaan hebben over twee sterke rijders. Antonio Giovinazzi heeft in de vrije trainingen op vrijdag laten zien dat hij in staat is om goede feedback te geven. Kimi Raikkonen neemt zijn kennis van topteams en veel ervaring mee naar Sauber. Dit is een goede combinatie van rijders."

"Kimi houdt van de Formule 1 en is tevreden met de sfeer in het team. Ik weet zeker dat hij zich comfortabel zal gaan voelen in ons kleine team. We moesten de keuze maken tussen hem en Marcus Ericsson en de keuze is op Kimi gevallen", aldus de teambaas van het Zwitserse team.

    voor alle azijnzeikers die Kimi een droge saaie oetlul vonden en te oud blah blah hij was wel de enige die het FIA feestje een flinke boost gaf! en ik persoonlijk vond dat geweldig al denk ik dat de meningen van vele niet zullen veranderen! ik zou hem nog graag 2 tot 3 jaar willen zien bij sauber! het is een Cult held

      Helemaal met je eens Beerkuh.
      Als altijd was Kimi niet het standaard, media-getrainde Duracell konijn. Kimi - ik weet niet wat er in mijn contract staat, ik hou me er toch niet aan - Raikkonen, was weer gewoon zichzelf. En zo zien we het graag.

      De opmerking van Rick F1 - cynisch bedoeld of niet - bracht me toch even aan het denken. Wanneer de FIA het uitdelen van een duwtje na een enerverende race beschouwd als een slecht voorbeeld voor de jeugd, waaraan middels een straf paal en perk gesteld moet worden, dan is het bezopen rondlopen op een officieel FIA gala een vergrijp waaraan je minstens 5 dagen community service moet koppelen.
      Maar ja, de FIA en consequent handelen ...

      Ik vind Kimi prima, anders dan de anderen. Ik zou alleen niet het FIA feestje als het beste voorbeeld daarvan naar voren brengen.

    Ha ha, als een Kimi zich meld lijkt me de keuze al snel gemaakt, vooral als hij geen buitensporige eisen stelt .. Dus was nauwelijks sprake van een keuze, was gewoon 'doei doei' Ericsson.

    Volgens Leclerc wordt het 2019 chassis nog beter van Sauber dus dat belooft wat voor Kimi en Gio.
