Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona hoopt op nieuw Formule 1-contract

De organisatoren van de Spaanse Grand Prix zijn er nog steeds niet zeker van dat ze tot een nieuwe overeenkomst kunnen komen met Liberty Media. Binnenkort gaat er weer gepraat worden tussen de twee partijen.

"We werken eraan, maar we moeten het juiste doen", zegt Vicenc Aguilera, de baas van het Circuit de Catalunya. "Het doel is om een hernieuwd contract af te sluiten, maar niets is nog zeker. Er kleven veel variabelen aan een nieuw contract en we zullen zien hoe het vooruitgaat."

"De gezondheid van het circuit is in zijn structuur zeer goed, maar financieel gaat het middelmatig. Als gevolg van de huidige moeilijke omstandigheden, zijn we niet in staat om middelen te genereren en verliezen op te vangen. We hebben extra bijdragen nodig."

El Mundo Deportivo meldt dat de lokale overheid 2,5 miljoen euro heeft bijgedragen, maar dat bedrag wordt nu gekort naar 1,5 miljoen euro. "We hebben een overeenkomst die drie jaar heeft geduurd en nu moeten we gaan overwegen wat we na 2020 willen. In 2019 zijn er direct na de Grand Prix verkiezingen en we zullen dus zien wat er gebeurt", aldus Aguilera.

Een andere baas van het circuit, Joan Fontsere geeft toe dat hij opgelucht is dat de teams in ieder geval wel de wintertests in Barcelona blijven rijden. "Het zijn de moeilijkste onderhandelingen geweest die ik tot nu toe heb gehad. De sneeuw van dit jaar heeft niet geholpen, aangezien de teams in optimale condities wilden testen. Gelukkig hebben ze toch besloten om hier te blijven."

  Ik vond de race in 2016 wel saai. Er gebeurde op de eerste ronde na helemaal niks. De winnaar daarentegen was wel leuk.

  Tuurlijk als je voor de voorliggende coureur bent Roy en de achterliggende coureurs zijn minstens zo snel of sneller dan is het best spannend. Kijk je echter als neutrale kijker dan zie je gewoon dat ze achter elkaar rijden een hele tijd lang zonder dat er echt wat gebeurd. Desalniettemin vond ik het opzich een leuke race.

Waar getest word moeten ze geen race organiseren....en waar ze racen moeten ze niet testen.

Als ze nou eens gaan testen op potentieel nieuw banen..dan weten ze meteen meer over het gedrag van de wagen op een nieuw circuit..kunnen ze meteen de min punten aanpakken zodat ze alles tip top hebben wanneer er een race komt

Als er een van de kalender af mag, is het deze wel. Hier worden over het algemeen de meest dodelijke saaie races gereden die je maar kan voorstellen.

Monza wil een investering van 100 miljoen gaan doen om het circuit te herstructureren zoals een nieuwe chicane erbij en een aanpassing van de Lesmo.

Dit willen ze doen om het circuit op de kalender te houden op langere termijn.
