Giovinazzi ziet een gemotiveerde Raikkonen bij Sauber

Antonio Giovinazzi denkt dat Kimi Raikkonen, volgend jaar zijn teamgenoot bij Sauber, hem de komende tijd zal gaan helpen. 2019 gaat voor de 24-jarige door Ferrari gesteunde Italiaan zijn eerste volledige jaar worden. Vorig jaar reed hij al twee wedstrijden voor het Zwitserse team.

"Charles Leclerc zei dat hij soms met Sebastian Vettel praat en soms ook een beetje met Kimi Raikkonen. Maar toen ik in Abu Dhabi testte, heb ik heel veel met Kimi gepraat. Eigenlijk als nooit tevoren", zegt Giovinazzi tegenover het Italiaanse Autosprint.

"Hij is erg gemotiveerd voor deze nieuwe belevenis. Dus als wereldkampioen, die laatst nog een wedstrijd won, zal hij me helpen in mijn ontwikkeling. Dat gaat hij zeker niet afwijzen", aldus Giovinazzi. Zijn teamgenoot Kimi Raikkonen reed achttien jaar geleden al voor Sauber en ziet veel veranderingen.

"Er zijn veel nieuwe mensen, maar die hebben wat nodig is. Ze hebben alle middelen, er is een goede windtunnel en dat is allemaal nodig om een goede auto te bouwen. We hebben ook een Ferrari-motor en we weten waartoe die in staat is. Het was belangrijk dat ik meteen in de auto zou zitten, om te kijken of er dingen moesten veranderen, maar ik moet zeggen dat alles vrij goed ging", aldus de Fin tegenover La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Sowieso hebben wij dit jaar een gemotiveerde en hongerige Raikkonen gezien. Wat de eerste keer was sinds zijn Lotus tijd. En daarmee bewees hij zelf zeker dat een gemotiveerde Raikkonen altijd nog een aanwinst voor de Formule 1 is. Ongeacht zijn leeftijd.
