Hülkenberg: "Lastig te voorspellen hoe Renault het in 2019 doet"

Renault en Nico Hülkenberg hopen in 2019 wederom een stap richting de top van de Formule 1 te zetten. Of en in hoeverre dat gaat lukken, is volgens de Duitser erg lastig te voorspellen.

Renault werd in 2018 vierde in het kampioenschap voor constructeurs en Hülkenberg legde beslag op de zevende positie bij de coureurs. Aan een voorspelling voor 2019 wil hij zich nog niet wagen, omdat hij niet weet waar de andere teams mee bezig zijn. "Dat is altijd erg lastig, want het is alleen maar speculeren. We weten wat we zelf doen en dat ziet er niet slecht uit, maar we weten niet wat de rest gaat doen", vertelde Hülkenberg aan F1i.com.

Het proces van voorspellen wordt in 2019 nog lastiger gemaakt door de invoering van de nieuwe voorvleugels. Volgens Hülkenberg is het lastig te voorspellen welk team die regelwijzigingen het beste verwerkt. "Natuurlijk is de nieuwe voorvleugel een soort kleine reset voor volgend jaar. Het maakt de auto's behoorlijk anders. Het is dus ook lastig te peilen."

Hülkenberg hoopt in 2019 een aanval te kunnen doen op de top 3, maar daar is veel voor nodig. "We moeten het gat flink verkleinen en er wat vanaf blijven snoepen. Als fabrieksteam moeten we mikken op een grote stap voorwaarts. Dat is waar we naartoe moeten, dus dan moeten we ons daarop richten. Volgens mij hebben we op veel gebieden progressie geboekt. Vooral wat betreft de structuur van het team en het goed positioneren van het team om te kunnen groeien in de komende twee jaar."

Indien Renault de 4e plaats kan handhaven en het gat naar de 3e verkleinen dan hebben ze het al heel knap gedaan. Mijn mening toch. Maar denk dat ze een hele kluif zullen hebben om Sauber en Racing Point achter zich te houden.

1e seizoenshelft zat Renault er best goed bij. 2e helft vond ik ze toch terugzakken.
Renault heeft historie en ze hebben zondermeer progressie gemaakt, maar het zal vooral van de motor afhangen. Als ze die niet krachtiger krijgen, dan wordt het toch lastiger voor ze...

  Niet alleen de motor..ook het chassis waarmee ze al jaren lopen te klooien mag wel wat beter.
  Gezien wat RedBull met dezelfde motor doet ten opzichte van Renault is dat betreurenswaardig wat die fransen laten zien

  Als je kijkt naar het veld en de verschillen tussen teams met dezelfde motor is het denk ik duidelijk dat het grootste voordeel juist met het chassis te behalen is. Renault was daar, in het verleden, altijd wel goed in.

Wat in dit artikel het meets opvalt is dat het allemaal zo lastig is. Het is lastig omdat je niet weet wat de andere teams doen (dat weet je nooit). Het is lastig vanwege de nieuwe aeroregels (ieder jaar weer nieuwe regels, dat is lastig).

Hülkenberg is een hele beste vent en een prima coureur maar in de toekomst kijken gaat hem niet zo goed af kennelijk, mij trouwens ook niet. Wie dat wel goed kan zou schatrijk kunnen worden denk ik. Iemand hier?

Dit jaar heeft Renault wel ruim honderd man extra in dienst genomen en ook de omstreden ex FIA medewerker. Kijken of dat zich kan vertalen naar resultaten, persoonlijk denk ik dat ze het vierde team zullen blijven.

  Volgens mij zijn ze verdiend 4e geworden. Sportief gezien kun je stellen dat FI het qua dollar/punten ratio het beter gedaan heeft. Is dat wat je bedoeld?

Als je goed naar de resultaaten kijk waren ze niet echt het 4e team, dat was Forceindia, die hebben zo een turbilent jaar achter zich dat als ze niet de orginatorische problemen hadden gehad echt wel boven Renault hadden gestaan. het eerste doel zou moeten zijn het 4de team echt worden en niet met geluk 4de worden. Ze moeten meer dan 3 maal zoveel punten halen om een bedrijgen voor RedBull te worden. Als je zo hoog inzet kun je alleen maar heel ver vallen, en dat is neiet goed voor de sfeer in de organisatie.
Daar bij kruipt Redbull steeds dichter bij de top 2, dus als ze niet uit kijken wordt het gat alleen maar groter.
