Auer keert na zes jaar terug in Toyota Racing Series

Lucas Auer heeft een mooie bezigheid gevonden voor de wintermaanden. De voormalig DTM-coureur gaat zich in de Nieuw-Zeelandse Toyota Racing Series voorbereiden op zijn avontuur in de Super Formula.

De afgelopen seizoenen was Auer terug te vinden in de DTM, waar hij met Mercedes meerdere races wist te winnen. Mercedes stopte na 2018 echter met de DTM en dat betekent voor het neefje van Gerhard Berger dat hij kan uitkijken naar een nieuw avontuur. Voor 2019 heeft hij dat gevonden in Japan, waar hij met steun van Red Bull gaat deelnemen aan de Super Formula.

Om zichzelf goed te kunnen voorbereiden op zijn terugkeer in de single seaters, werkt Auer in de wintermaanden in Nieuw-Zeeland de Toyota Racing Series af. Hij zal daar in actie komen voor M2 Competition, de regerend kampioen. Het is niet de eerste keer dat Auer in de wintermaanden naar het zuidelijk halfrond trekt om zich op het nieuwe seizoen voor te bereiden: in 2013 reed hij ook al in de Toyota Racing Series. Destijds werd hij derde in het kampioenschap, achter Nick Cassidy en Alex Lynn.

Las hier een tijdje geleden dat Tictum dat kampioenschap wel ff op zijn naam ging schrijven, en de 4 F1 superlicentie punten binnen wilde harken. Ik ga daar nu al aan twijfelen.
