Managementstructuren McLaren blijven ontwikkeld worden in nabije toekomst

McLaren is bezig met de wederopbouw van het team na een aantal matige seizoenen in de Formule 1. De wijzigingen binnen het team worden nog steeds gemaakt en volgens CEO Zak Brown kan dat tot ver in 2019 door blijven gaan.

McLaren werkte tussen 2015 en 2017 samen met Honda en die samenwerking bleek niet vruchtbaar te zijn. Het zorgde voor interne spanningen binnen het team. De team hoopte de weg naar boven te vinden met Renault-motoren, maar aan de verwachtingen werd niet voldaan. Brown besloot daarna om met mensen te gaan schuiven in het management. Volgens de Amerikaan blijft het niet bij de huidige wijzigingen, want aan F1i.com vertelde hij dat McLaren blijft ontwikkelen in de nabije toekomst.

"We hebben Gil de Ferran gehaald, die een unieke mix van racersinstinct en strategisch inzicht meebrengt. Andrea Stella hebben we gepromoveerd tot leider van onze ontwikkelings- en analysegroep, Pat Fry hebben we teruggehaald als technisch directeur om het ontwerp van de MCL34 te leiden en we hebben natuurlijk James Key vastgelegd om ons technisch leiderschap te brengen."

"Naast deze topbenoemingen hebben we geprobeerd om de juiste talenten op de juiste plaatsen te zetten binnen onze organisatie", vervolgt Brown. "Zo moeten we wendbaarder worden en onze technische cultuur stroomlijnen. Deze veranderingen zijn onderdeel van een constant veranderend plan om onze prestaties te verbeteren. De Formule 1 is een dynamische en totaal geen statische omgeving, dus in de komende maanden verwacht ik meer wijzigingen."

Goed daarvoor hoef je geen genie te zijn, om te zien dat dit mensen zijn die een positieve verandering teweeg zullen gaan brengen. Je moet daartoe dan wel de beslissing mgen nemen, en het lijkt er op dat Mansour het licht nu op groen heeft gezet, nadat hij lang verandering geblokkeert heeft. Ik vraag me nog steeds af of Zak Brown de juiste man is om die hele operatie te leiden. Hij kan zich beter op de vermarkting van het team en het binnenhalen van sponsoren richten.

  Hij heeft in ieder geval gezorgd voor wijzigingen. Hoe die uitpakken kunnen we pas over 2 jaar werkelijk zien. Hij heeft de hand in eigen boezem gestoken en veranderingen gebracht daar waar hij acht dat ze nodig zijn. Dat zijn positieve signalen.

Lag het aan HONDA? Deels, maar misschien ook aan wat McLaren van HONDA verlangde.

Lag het aan een prima dona coureur die in alles zijn zin kreeg, maar misschien wel een
betere coureur op de baan was dan in feedback en ontwikkelen van een wagen?

Lag het aan de engineers die er bij McLaren niks meer van konden waar ze dat bij andere teams wel konden?

Of lag het aan de managers? Onze Franse vriend is weg, maar vormt Zak zelf misschien ook een oorzaak?

Persoonlijk baart het mij nog de meeste zorgen dat McLaren nog steeds naar buiten doet alsof ze in 2017 een topchassis hadden (want we gingen zo lekker in de bochten)terwijl de
rest van het paddock hoofdschuddend zag dat McLaren in 2017 met maximum downforce reed. Waarom? Om sponsoren binnen te hengelen? Of om hun topcoureur binnen te houden om hem het idee te geven dat McLaren met een andere motor wel top zou zijn?
Iedereen met een beetje verstand weet inmiddels dat McLaren in 2017 ook geen goed chassis had, dus waarom dat verhaal volhouden?

Volgens mij is het lek nog lang niet boven bij McLaren......

De Formule 1 is een dynamische omgeving, ja dat klopt. Op technisch (en aerodynamisch) vlak. Dat heeft echter niets te maken met de management structuur. Een goed georganiseerde en gestroomlijnde management structuur kan ieder probleem tacklen en iedere reglementswijziging opvangen. Daar hoef je echt niet iedere keer wijzigingen in aan te brengen. Don't change a winning team. Wat Brown hier doet is een rookgordijn leggen om zijn eigen tekortkomingen te verbergen.

Als ik hen was zou ik beginnen met Zak Brown buiten te zetten. Die man is vooral bezig met zichzelf... Heb nog niets gezien of gehoord van die man dat doet vermoeden dat hij een meerwaarde is voor McLaren.
