Stroom aan goed nieuws overtuigde Raikkonen om naar Sauber te gaan

Sauber-teambaas Frederic Vasseur zegt dat de constante stroom aan goed nieuws Kimi Raikkonen heeft overtuigd om voor het Zwitserse team te gaan rijden in 2019. Zo is Alfa Romeo bijvoorbeeld de titelsponsor geworden van Sauber

"Ferrari, Alfa Romeo en Charles verbonden zich aan ons team en eigenlijk hadden we ieder week goed nieuws. Het was als een positieve spiraal. De motivatie is er en het humeur en de teamspirit is enorm in vergelijking met vorig jaar", zegt Vasseur tegenover Autosport. 

"Voor mij zijn de rijders hetzelfde. Goede engineers kun je motiveren met het salaris, maar ze houden van het racen en willen resultaten zien. We zijn in een veel betere situatie om te werven. Ik heb gevoel dat wij erg aantrekkelijk zijn. Voor de rijders geldt hetzelfde. Kimi weet dat het voor ons lastig gaat worden om, zonder ongelukken bij de grote teams, hoger dan zevende te eindigen. De motivatie kan echter ergens anders vandaan komen. Het feit dat we verbeteren, groeien en bouwen is een enorm gevoel voor alle teamleden, inclusief de rijders."

"We hebben er sinds vorig jaar veel mensen bij gekregen, zodat we ons in ieder deel van het bedrijf kunnen verbeteren en dat betaalt zich uit. Toen we in 2017 begonnen te werken, verbonden mensen zich aan het begin 2018 aan ons en sommigen van hen werkten aan de 2018-auto. Sommige jongens hielden zich meteen met de auto van 2019 bezig. Het zijn de eerste resultaten van deze werving. Ik hoop dat we steeds meer resultaten te zien krijgen."

    Mooi om die ommekeer te zien bij Sauber. Onder Kalterborn was dat team echt het lachertje op de grid geworden en was het veel sympathie kwijtgeraakt bij mij.

      @DBGATES, je bedoelt waarschijnlijk: MET kaltenborn was het team er niet meer geweest ;-)

      @Sambalbei: ondanks je knipoog kan je veel zeggen over Kaltenborn, maar die heeft er wel in eerste instantie voor gezorgd dat het team inderdaad niet verdween. Dat ze uiteindelijk op meerdere vlakken niet (altijd) de juiste beslissingen heeft gemaakt (neem b.v. het akkefietje met de contracten van coureurs zoal v.d. Garde), maakt het niet in volledigheid slecht wat ze heeft gedaan. Ze is uiteindelijk (net) op tijd aan de kant gezet/eruit gestapt, waarna er nieuwe deuren open gingen. Dat is wel zo.

      @RAZORBLADES,

      Zeggen dat Kalterborn de reden is dat Sauber nog bestaat is niet waar. Kalterborn was in 2010 al aangestelt als CEO van Sauber Motorsport nadat BMW zich terugtrok uit de sport en Suaber weer een prive team werd.

      Sinds 2010 is het team, onder haar leiding, alleen maar achteruitgegaan met als kers op de slagroom de beschamende situatie rond de coureurs in 2015. Zeggen dat Kalterborn de reden is dat Sauber nog bestaat is vreemd. De reden dat Sauber nog bestaat is mijns inziens Longbow Finance geweest. Dat Kalterborn al die rare sprongen heeft moeten maken is omdat onder haar leiding Sauber was afgegleden tot lachertje van de grid met als dieptepunt nul punten in 2014. In vijf jaar tijd heeft ze weten te presteren dat Sauber bijna van de grid verdween.

      Ze is niet de redder van Sauber geweest maar de (bijna) tenondergang, toe ze instapte stond Suaber er immers een stuk beter voor.

    Hij zal wel het hetzelfde salaris krijgen wat hij ook bij Ferrari kreeg. Mooie deal gemaakt denk ik. Anders had hij het niet gedaan.

      Zoals voor iedere F1 coureur geldt, zal ook een vorstelijk salaris Kimi over de streep getrokken hebben, maar verder is het ook nog steeds een echte racer die ik niet naar een team zie gaan om daar kansloos in de rondte te rijden

      Ik denk juist dat hij veel salaris inleverd. Ik kan me niet aan de indruk ontrekken dat Kimi een racer is en dit besluit met zijn hart en niet met zijn portomonee genomen heeft
      Maar dat is natuurlijk speculatie

      Volgens mij is er een last van Kimi's schouders afgevallen sinds hij wist dat hij lekker nog 2 jaartjes bij Sauber kon rijden. Hij komt een stuk relaxter over in elk geval, en de druk om bij Sauber te presteren is voor hem peanuts vergeleken met al die belangen, en politieke spelletjes die er altijd binnen Ferrari spelen.
