Mekies grootste kanshebber om Binotto op te volgen bij Ferrari

Laurent Mekies lijkt de grootste kanshebber te zijn om de rol van technisch directeur bij Ferrari over te nemen van Mattia Binotto. Na een langdurige machtsstrijd werd gisteren bekendgemaakt dat Binotto de nieuwe Ferrari-teambaas zou worden en hij is de vervanger van de verdrongen Maurizio Arrivabene. 

Auto Motor und Sport en La Gazzetta dello Sport hebben gespeculeerd dat de wisseling van de wacht altijd al een plan was geweest die voormalig Ferrari-president Sergio Marchionne had willen uitwerken. Marchionne overleed echter in juli vorig jaar en dat werkte de machtsstrijd tussen Binotto en Arrivabene in de hand.

Binotto blijkt voorlopig ook nog de technische zaken op zich te nemen, maar dat lijkt volgens La Gazzetta dello Sport en het Duitse Bild slechts tijdelijk te zijn. Zij zeggen namelijk dat Laurent Mekies de grootste kanshebber is om Binotto op te volgen als technisch directeur bij het Italiaanse team.

Mekies werd vorig jaar door Ferrari overgenomen van de FIA en die overstap werd als controversieel gezien door de buitenwereld. Hij werkte namelijk als plaatsvervanger van FIA-racedirecteur Charlie Whiting.

      Dat is een overdreven stelling.

      In elke sector of industrie, in de poltiek en zeker (!) in de sportwereld zie je voortdurend verschuivingen, of zoals jij het omschrijft: Schaakspelen.

      Het zal er vnl van afhangen welke intenties de vernoemde heren, en het voltallige management erachter hebben. Denken ze in termen van het gehele team en het merk, of halen hun persoonlijke ambitie en/of ego hen gauw in?

      Ik geloof in Binotto zijn kwaliteiten, het is ook een échte Ferrari -man.
      Hij was er tijdens de grote successen, maar ook tijdens de vormdip van enkele jaren geleden. Hij kent het huis, de cultuur en de mensen en wordt, als je alles mag geloven, erg gewaardeerd en gerespecteerd binnen de Scuderia.

      Boeiend al die verhalen om volgen. Binotto zou minder "fan" zijn van Vettel en vorig jaar geopperd hebben om Alonso terug te halen. Daar stak Arrivabene naar het schijnt een stokje voor. Tijdterwijl probeerde Maurizio ook een "coup" te ondernemen en eigende hij meer en meer beslissingsrecht toe. Gezien de titel werd verspeeld is hem dat dan ook hard aangerekend.

      Ach, roddels alom momenteel rond de personen Mattia en Maurizio.

      Laten we vooral afwachten hoe de veranderingen zich zullen vertalen naar de prestaties alvorens weer te spreken van een typische Ferrari Italo fiasco...lijkt me wat te voorbarig.

    Ik blijf het toch jammer dat hij of misschien iemand anders die Whitening niet is opgevolgd. Het wordt ook eens tijd voor een andere man of vrouw op die positie. Sowieso een functie die gerouleerd dient te worden na een x aantal jaar lijkt mij.

      Eens met @Mojito. Dit kan de schijn van belangenverstrengeling in de hand werken. Er blijven lijntjes lopen tussen FIA en Ferrari. Moet je niet willen.
