Gasly moest onderhandelen met Red Bull voor deelname aan Race Of Champions

Pierre Gasly maakte zaterdagavond zijn debuut bij de Race Of Champions. De Fransman wilde graag aan het evenement in Mexico-Stad meedoen, maar hij moest daarvoor wel flink onderhandelen met de bazen van Red Bull Racing.

Als GP2-kampioen van 2016 maakt Gasly aanspraak op deelname aan de Race Of Champions, dat dit jaar in het Foro Sol in Mexico-Stad verreden wordt. Zaterdag stond de Nations Cup op het programma en daarin had de Red Bull-coureur weinig succes. Met Loïc Duval vormde Gasly Team Frankrijk, maar al in de poulefase werden ze uitgeschakeld. Zondag neemt Gasly ook nog deel aan de individuele wedstrijd.

Het is de eerste keer dat Gasly deelneemt aan de Race Of Champions, maar hij moest met zijn idee wel de goedkeuring krijgen van Red Bull Racing. Dat had nog wel wat voeten in de aarde, zo vertelde hij voorafgaand aan de Nations Cup. "Ik kijk de Race Of Champions al sinds ik een kind ben, dus het genieten dat ik hier dit weekend ben. Ik ben een racer en ik hou ervan om te racen in elke mogelijke auto. Toen ik dus de kans zag om voor Team Frankrijk te rijden, wilde ik dat natuurlijk doen!"

"Ik moest er een beetje voor onderhandelen met de teambazen, maar uiteindelijk lieten ze me racen. Het is een geweldig evenement waar een geweldige sfeer hangt. Het is erg leuk om te kunnen racen met een iets meer relaxte sfeer dan normaal en om bij te praten met coureurs uit verschillende raceklassen."

Als je moet onderhandelen betekent dat dus dat Gasly een tegenprestatie moet leveren. Ben benieuwd wat dat dan is. PR activiteiten?
