Magnussen zag dat Hamilton zichzelf niet kon uiten bij McLaren

Haas-coureur Kevin Magnussen heeft onthuld dat voormalig McLaren-coureur Lewis Hamilton te weinig vrijheid had om zichzelf te uiten bij het team uit Woking. Volgens de Deen wil McLaren zijn rijders op een bepaalde manier vormen. Magnussen is zelf ook veel veranderd sinds hij weg is gegaan bij het Britse team.

"McLaren verwachtte een bepaald type gedrag van ons, een bepaalde attitude. Ze hebben rijders gecreëerd, laat ik het zo zeggen. Lewis Hamilton is het perfecte voorbeeld van een rijder die zichzelf niet kon uiten bij McLaren."

"Bij tijd en wijle moet je coureurs vergelijken met muzikanten of artiesten. Ze hebben ruimte nodig om met briljante dingen op de proppen te komen. Wanneer je een etiket op een rijder plaatst die hij niet kan weghalen, dan kan dat lastig zijn", aldus de Deen, die wel aangeeft dat hij de mensen bij McLaren mist.

Desondanks laat Magnussen wel weten dat hij McLaren heeft moeten verlaten om een betere rijder te worden. "Natuurlijk mis ik de mensen bij McLaren soms en ik kan niet klagen over mijn periode daar, maar voor mijn persoonlijke groei is het goed geweest dat ik niet meer voor dat team rijd", aldus Magnussen tegenover Racingnews365.

Ik geloof hier wel in. Ik geloof best dat de zaken zijn zoals Magnussen ze benoemt (doettie best netjes volgens mij).
Het feit dat Magnussen niet geslaagd is bij McLaren doet niets af zijn mening / observatie. Die mening mag hij hebben en die observatie kan nog steeds juist zijn.

    Zelfde zei ik ook tegen de rector op school. Ging er niet in bij hem. Zijn voorstel was een transfer zonder afkoopsom.

    Magnussen zoekt wel vaker een excuus voor zijn slechte optredens. Maar jammer dat hij dit nu op Hamilton probeert te projecteren. Het verschil is dat Hamilton wel wist te presteren bij McLaren. Net zoals Button, Raikkonen of Hakkinen.

    Als je het niveau hebt van een Palmer of Grosjean dan val je inderdaad door de mand naast een coureur van het kaliber Button of Hamilton. Dat Magnussen nu zo veel beter is geloof ik ook niet.

      Ik vind hem een welkome aanvulling in het doorgaans vrij saaie veld (qua rijders). Kevin heeft wel ballen en durft nog enigszins mens te zijn. Kleurrijk type, niks mis mee.

      Ik zie veel liever de beste talenten tegen elkaar rijden dan iemand als Magnussen die een groot deel van zijn tijd loopt te trollen op de baan.

      Ik kan me nog een incident herinneren in de kwalificatie waar Magnussen een fout maakte wat hem ongeveer 4 seconden kostte en alsnog ging hij niet opzij voor Kvyat die wel in een goed rondje zat. Opmerking van Magnussen naderhand was dat Kvyat maar meer afstand had moeten nemen.

      Als je zoekt op beelden met Magnussen dan vind je grotendeels alleen maar krankzinnige acties. Ik ben daar niet zo fan van.

    Daarbij, Magnussen is niet het enige bewezen talent dat z'n kariere (bijna) ten einde zag komen binnen de McLaren organisatie.

    Hamilton kon zichzelf niet meer ´uiten´ omdat mclaren niet meer de snelste wagen had na 2008. simpel.

      Tja, als jij het verschil niet ziet tussen Hamilton in zijn McLaren-periode en Hamilton in zijn Mercedes-periode, zegt dat meer over jou. Bij McLaren moest men destijds strak geschoren zijn, zie ook Alonso. Bovendien was één van de redenen voor Hamilton zijn vertrek dat hij véél minder teamgekozen pr moest doen bij Mercedes. Dus ja, hij kon zichzelf waarschijnlijk daar zo niet zijn. Of dat dat invloed had op zijn prestaties, dat weet ik niet, maar wat Magnussen zegt, klopt wel degelijk.
