Renault gaat in zee met voormalig Ferrari Academy Driver Zhou

Renault heeft de Chinese tiener Guanyu Zhou toegevoegd aan zijn Academy Programme en zal hem in 2019 ontwikkelingstaken laten uitvoeren. In 2014 was Zhou nog onderdeel van de Ferrari Driver Academy en een jaar later eindigde hij met het Prema Powerteam als tweede in het Italiaanse Formule 4 kampioenschap.

De 19-jarige Chinees reed de afgelopen drie jaar in de Europese Formule 3 en kende in 2018 zijn beste seizoen. Zo wist hij twee keer te winnen en eindigde hij zes keer op het podium. In 2019 komt Zhou uit voor UNI-Virtuosi Racing in de Formule 2.

"Het voelt als een grote eer dat ik me bij Renault Sport Racing mag voegen als Academy-lid en als ontwikkelingsrijder van het Formule 1-team en ik kan niet wachten om te starten. Renault heeft grote ambities, zowel voor het Formule 1-team als de Academy en dat is iets wat me motiveert. Ik weet wat de betekenis is van Renault in China, dus ik ben vooral trots dat ik zowel Renault als China mag representeren in de wereld van het racen."

"De Formule 2 wordt de volgende stap in mijn carrière. Dat is een competitieve klasse en ik zal in een korte periode veel moeten leren. Ik heb hard gewerkt gedurende de winter en de driedaagse Formule 2-test in Abu Dhabi is zeer voordelig geweest. Ik kijk er naar uit om Renault te helpen en te adviseren en het is mijn doel om succesvol te zijn."

Geen Geweldige rijder, maar gewoon een redelijke rijder. is in de GP3 meerdere malen 8ste geworden in het kampioenschap, en rijdt dit jaar F2. ben benieuwd wat hij daar kan doen
