Deense correspondent: "McLaren is zijn focus kwijtgeraakt"

Eén van de grootste problemen van het worstelende McLaren is dat het zijn focus is kwijtgeraakt. Dat is de mening van Peter Nygaard, een correspondent van de Deense krant BT. 

Het team van McLaren is één van de grootste teams in de geschiedenis van de Formule 1, maar het lukte de Britten vorig jaar niet om te herstellen na een aantal magere jaren met Honda. In 2018 werden de Japanners aan de kant geschoven en vervangen door de motoren van Renault en in 2019 rijdt McLaren met een geheel nieuw rijderspaar. 

"Eén van de redenen is dat ze de focus zijn kwijtgeraakt", claimt Nygaard. "Ze wilden teveel. Ze wilden in de IndyCar gaan racen, ze wilden in de GT Racing gaan rijden en in nog wel meer klassen. Maar hun grootste focus moet bij de Formule 1 liggen."

Nygaard denkt dat McLaren in een negatieve spiraal is beland, wat heeft uitgemond in management-conflicten. "Wanneer je een groot team bent en je begint te verliezen op een manier zoals zij deden, dan begin je het elkaar kwalijk te nemen en zo ontstonden er conflicten door het gehele team."

      Het ligt denk ik wat genuanceerder. Met Honda en Alonso kwam het budget, de beloftes en zoveel potentie dat men groots en vooruit kon denken. Men zou in 2 á 3 jaar immers weer meestrijden om de wereldtitel. Helaas bleven de beloftes loos, het budget verdween in een bodemloze put en Alonso kon niet laten zien waartoe hij in staat was. Het werd crisis bij McLaren

      Dat komt natuurlijk omdat het Deense gedeelte weggehaald is op het forum.

    Van de andere kant is het ook zo dat als je niets probeert win je ook niets. Het Honda avontuur pakte zowel voor McLaren als voor Honda niet goed uit en daarbij komt misschien ook nog wel de drang van Alonso om naast de F1 nog andere klassen te willen bewandelen voor zijn eigen eer. Hopelijk gaat het dit jaar weer de goede kant op en komt dan de focus weer in snel tempo terug. Met Carlos en Lando hebben ze na mijn idee twee gemotiveerde rijders die er voor willen gaan.

      Ja, Mclaren heeft uiteindelijk wel z'n nek uitgestoken met de deal met Honda.
      Jammer dat het gefaald heeft. En wie het zijn schuld is........?

    Mwah, ik.vind dit ook weer zo'n verhaal dat een eigen leven is gaan leiden, terwijl de échte onderbouwing ontbreekt.
    Het klopt als hij zegt dat de focus niet meer alleen op de F1 ligt. Maar feit is dat McLaren vanaf 2013 al niet meer naar behoren presteert; waren ze toen ook al met Indy Car etc. bezig? Volgens mij niet.
    Maar goed, als het slecht gaat zoekt men oorzaken, maar er zijn toch echt meer fabrikanten die buiten de F1 in de autosport actief zijn. Verliezen die.ook hun focus dan?

    Ik denk dat de oorzaken waarom McLaren teleurstellend gepresteerd heeft afgelopen jaren, heel concreet aanwijsbaar zijn en daar valt zoals.ik het zie, deelname aan andere auto klasses niet onder.

      Precies. Over Ferrari hoor je dat nooit terwijl die ook al geen 10 jaar WK zijn geworden. Stop al die middelen in de F1 en zij waren niet te verslaan.

    Deens correspondent of een figurant wat maakt het verschil, als ze allemaal maar een woordje mee praten over McLaren wat het beste voor McLaren mag zijn. Let op..... bij McLaren vindt een breinverschuiving plaats, wanneer en waar is nog de vraag!
