Williams Advanced Engineering gaat samenwerken met Lotus

Williams Advanced Engineering, de onderzoeks- en ontwikkelingstak van Williams Heritage, is een samenwerking aangegaan met Lotus. De nieuwe eigenaar van Lotus, Geely, overweegt om ongeveer 1,5 miljard in het project te stoppen om het merk nieuw leven in te blazen. Dit zou voor Williams uitstekend kunnen uitpakken, aangezien de Advanced Engineering tak op dit moment te weinig opdrachten krijgt.

Advanced Engineering is de afgelopen jaren druk bezig geweest met hun aandeel in de Formule E en diverse andere projecten, waaronder een milieuvriendelijk project genaamd de Dendrobrium EV. De verwachting is dat Advanced Engineering met Lotus de ontwikkeling van hun hypercar gaat opzetten. Dit geheime project wordt in de Britse Automotive-wereld als 'het wonder van Lotus' gezien. Dit project is overigens nog niet bevestigd en Lotus weigert op dit moment commentaar te geven.

"Onze technologische samenwerking met Williams Advanced Engineering maakt deel uit van een strategie om onze kennis en vaardigheden uit te breiden," was het logische antwoord van Phil Popham, CEO van Lotus Cars. "Het kunnen toepassen van geavanceerde aandrijvingsmotoren kan talloze opwindende oplossingen bieden voor meerdere voertuigen. Onze gecombineerde en complementaire ervaringen maken dit een zeer aantrekkelijke combinatie van technisch talent, technische bekwaamheid en baanbrekende Britse geest," aldus de CEO in een interview met Top Gear Magazine.

In de automotive wereld is men er van overtuigd dat de samenwerking tussen beide partijen een goede zet is, zeker voor het financieel in zwaar weer verkerende Williams. Over een eventuele samenwerking op Formule 1-gebied zijn vooralsnog geen mededelingen gedaan, maar met de racehistorie van beide bedrijven lijkt dit slechts een kwestie van tijd.

Williams heeft al eerder met Jaguar samengewerkt voor de Jaguar C-X75. Dus kan best wel wat worden, aangezien de C-X75 een brute wagen is, die op wat prototypes na helaas nooit in productie is genomen

Laat me niet lachen, de Britste Auto-motive ... Zonder Duitse, Indiase ,Chinese hulp en overnames was het zooitje allang een stille dood gestorven. Wat is Lotus nu helemaal.. zoveelste Britse naam die parasiteert op een roemrijk verleden maar allang niks meer voorstelt....
