Rosberg: "Vettel en Ferrari moeten zich verbeteren voor titels in 2019"

Ferrari en Sebastian Vettel liepen in 2018 de wereldtitels in de Formule 1 mis door een reeks fouten. In 2019 heeft het team volgens Nico Rosberg absoluut weer een kans op de titels, maar dan moet zowel team als coureur zich verbeteren.

Halverwege het seizoen zeg het er goed uit voor Vettel en Ferrari, maar na de zomerstop zakte het seizoen als een kaartenhuis in elkaar. Ferrari maakte een aantal strategische fouten, terwijl Vettel te vaak fouten maakte en achterstevoren op de baan eindigde. Rosberg denkt dat Ferrari Mercedes van de troon kan stoten, maar dan moet de foutenlast bij beide partijen omlaag. Dat vertelde de wereldkampioen van 2017 aan Sky Sports F1.

"Vettel moet zich verbeteren en dat geldt voor het hele team. Vorig jaar maakten ze te veel fouten, want ze hadden de mogelijkheid om de titels te winnen. Ze hebben nu een aantal grote veranderingen ondergaan. Ze hebben voormalig teambaas Maurizio Arrivabene ingeruild voor Mattia Binotto, dus hebben een verandering doorgevoerd voor de hoogst mogelijke positie."

Vettel krijgt met Charles Leclerc een nieuwe teamgenoot bij Ferrari. Rosberg denkt dat deze aanstelling zowel goede als slechte gevolgen voor Ferrari kan hebben. "Met de komst van Leclerc kan het team heel erg dynamisch worden. Het kan ook negatief uitpakken en averechts werken. Het wordt leuk om naar te kijken. Ze moeten er een stapje bijzetten, maar dat kunnen ze ook. Het wordt weer geweldig om het seizoen te volgen."

Welke strategische fouten maakte Ferrari eigenlijk? Ze hadden wat gedoe met de banden in Japan, maar goed daarna hadden de coureurs nog 3 rondjes om een tijd te zetten (wat Raikkonen ook prima lukte)

Plus ze hadden Raikkonen wellicht eerder kunnen vertellen dat hij Vettel erlangs moest laten in Duitsland, maar realistisch gezien had dat geen moer uitgemaakt natuurlijk. Dan was Vettel een paar seconden verder voor gekomen op Hamilton. Maar hij had al 24 seconden voorsprong op Hamilton en bezweek onder de druk. Stel dat het 30 seconden voorsrpong was geweest, was het dan anders afgelopen?

Buiten dat nog iets anders?

Ferrari heeft eerder de juiste keuzes gemaakt in Australie en Bahrein. Daar pakten ze de winst weg bij Mercedes (en Raikkonen) en gaven die aan Vettel.

  Spanje, onverklaarbare pitstop voor Vettel waardoor die 4e ipv 3e wordt
  Oostenrijk, Vettel niet vertellen dat Sainz achter hem rijdt die een snelle ronde gaat doen 5 plaatsen straf en Raikkonen voor Vettel laten finishen.
  Duitsland, de autos veel eerder moeten omruilen.
  Italie, Raikkonen de beste plek in de kwalificatie geven ipv Vettel
  Singapore, waarom een ultra soft die het einde nooit gaat halen en je achter Perez de baan opkomt terwijl je dan juist vrije baan nodig hebt.
  Japan, banden in kwalificatie.
  
  Zoals je ziet was Ferrari absoluut perfect dit seizoen en lag het alleen aan Vettel. Want dat wil jij graag lezen :-)

  @Naldor, prima verwoord. Men moet zich ook realiseren dat Vettel steeds grotere risico's moest nemen om nog kans te maken op de titel, naarmate Mercedes het beter ging doen gedurende het seizoen. Ferrari heeft wellicht een groot deel van het seizoen de beste motor gehad, maar het beste chassis hebben ze nooit gehad, ook een wezenlijk verschil.

  @NALDOR , het ligt er aan welke titel .
  Ferrari had voor het constructeurskampioenschap veel meer punten binnen kunnen halen wanneer ze Kimi niet een compleet andere strategie hadden opgelegd dan de rest van het veld.
  Maar ja ,..Alles werd op het WDC van Sebastian gericht.
