Budkowski: "Nieuwe regels en Honda zorgen ervoor dat de gevestigde orde zal veranderen"

Vanaf dit seizoen zullen er aerodynamische wijzigingen zijn om het inhalen te bevorderen. Het is de bedoeling dat de subtop hierdoor iets makkelijker aansluiting kan vinden bij de gevestigde orde (Mercedes, Ferrari en Red Bull Racing). Deze teams hebben de afgelopen jaren de dienst uitgemaakt en zijn de enige constructeurs die in het hybride-tijdperk races hebben gewonnen. Elke kleine, relevantie wijziging in de regelgeving genereert onduidelijkheid. Voor de financieel krachtige teams is dit makkelijk op te lossen, zij kunnen profiteren van hun snellere ontwikkeling en creativiteit. Voor kleinere teams zal dit een grotere uitdaging worden.

Marcin Budkowski hoopt dat die kleinere teams de creativiteit in huis hebben om de top drie aan te vallen. "Realistisch gezien, als we kijken naar de situatie van vorig jaar en de verschillen, is het bijna onmogelijk om aan te sluiten bij de top drie," zegt de voormalig FIA-werknemer. "Maar, het is wel het tijdstip dat teams als McLaren, Alfa Romeo, Racing Point en wij een stap kunnen maken. We hebben namelijk een verandering in de regels die invloed kan gaan hebben op de gevestigde top drie. Er zijn ook enkele veranderingen binen de organisatie van die teams. Tevens is er voor een van de drie teams een nieuwe motorleverancier. Deze veranderingen kunnen de betrouwbaarheid van een team en auto in gevaar brengen."

Veranderingen, zoals de samenwerking tussen Honda en Red Bull, vormen volgens Budkowsku een risico: "Elke vorm van reorganisatie is een risico, maar ook een bedreiging. Wij boeken vooruitgang met de ontwikkeling van onze motor. Ik ben er zeker van dat Mercedes, Ferrari en Honda dat ook doen. We zullen zien hoe het eindigt," aldus de Pool.

Budkowski is van mening dat de doelstellingen van Renault ambitieus genoeg zijn om verder te komen, maar houd er rekening mee dat de ontwikkeling van haar rivalen ook doorslaggevend zullen zijn: "Vanuit ons perspectief moeten we het best mogelijke werk doen om onze doelstellingen te bereiken. Als we dat doen, moeten we vooruitgang boeken ten opzichte van vorig jaar. Als de rest hun werk niet zo goed zal doen, is dat een voordeel voor ons," concludeerde hij.

Beetje raar ook dat Renault altijd maar in de underdog rol kruipt, zo,n grote fabrikant kan zich dan beter toeleggen op alleen een top P.U te bouwen.. Nu is het niet echt reclame al dat gemodder de laatste seizoenen met een middel-matig team en een Motor(PU) die niks laat zien... Mag duidelijk zijn dat de relatief goede prestaties van RB vooral dankzij het chassis ,coureurs en Aero gehaald zijn... Slimmer geweest RB van absolute top PU te voorzien,, in een soort samenwerkingsverband , dan het huidige gedoe van Renault...

  Heb je het stukje wel gelezen? Das alleen de kop, die maakt men hier. Budkowski heeft het over alle drie de topteams en waarom hij denkt dat er wellicht een mogelijkheid is dat teams als Alfa Romeo, Racing Point en McLaren makkelijker kunnen aansluiten.
