Codemasters brengt sinds 2009 jaarlijks een nieuwe versie van de populaire Formule 1-game uit. Ieder jaar probeert de spellenmaker de game realistischer te maken en qua beelden lukt dat inmiddels heel aardig. Veel coureurs oefenen tegenwoordig thuis ook met een game in een eigen simulator.

Voor Mobil 1 - The Grid nam Pierre Gasly plaats om F1 2018 aan de tand te voelen. Tijdens een rondje over het circuit in Melbourne vertelt de nieuwe Red Bull Racing-coureur over zijn ervaringen met de games en hoe dicht deze spellen de werkelijkheid benaderen.

Hoeveel geld zou hij hebben ontvangen van Codemasters? F1 2018 staat niet direct bekend om zijn realisme qua gevoel van het besturen van de auto. Dit is bewust gedaan om het voor de massa leuk te houden.

Dat is ook meteen de reden dat de meeste echte coureurs vooral RFactor spelen.
