'beIN Sports verlengt uitzendrechten F1 niet door Saoedische piraterij'

De Formule 1 moet op zoek naar een nieuwe partner voor de uitzendrechten in het Midden-Oosten en Noord-Afrika. beIN Sports heeft besloten om het contract niet te verlengen, omdat de sport volgens de zender niet genoeg doet tegen illegale streams op het internet.

beIN Sports was sinds 2014 de zender die de Formule 1 in het Midden-Oosten en Noord-Afrika uitzond. Destijds tekende het grootste sporttelevisienetwerk van deze regio een contract voor vijf jaar, waarvoor het naar verluidt 170 miljoen euro voor betaalde. beIN Sports zou niet genoeg van deze investering terug verdiend hebben, vooral door matige resultaten van de afgelopen anderhalve jaar.

Dat valt samen met de komst van het Saoedische beoutQ. Dit netwerk werd in augustus 2017 opgericht als piratenzender en heeft vermoedelijk de rechten van beIN Sports gestolen. Die sportuitzendingen worden opnieuw uitgezonden via een Saoedisch netwerk en een eigen streamingservice. beoutQ heeft banden met de Saoedische overheid en hoogstwaarschijnlijk is de zender bedoeld om de spanningen met Qatar, waar beIN Sports vandaan komt, verder op te laten lopen.

beIN Sports heeft over de diefstal van de uitzendingen geklaagd en dat heeft er al voor gezorgd dat voetbalinstanties als de Premier League, de FIFA en de UEFA gerechtelijke stappen ondernomen hebben. Hierin komen de organisaties met de claim dat de piraterij een bedreiging is voor de financiële gezondheid van de sport. De Formule 1 heeft echter nog geen stappen aangekondigd of ondernomen, iets wat voor beIN Sports de druppel was om de uitzendrechten niet te willen verlengen.

  Inderdaad, die gasten mogen weleens gaan upgraden van hun P4-tjes ;)
  Leuke is dat ze ook vergeten dat mensen de races gewoon op gaan nemen en beschikbaar stellen op sommige forums. Daar haal ik 95% van de tijd de races vandaan :)
  
  Dat 170 miljoen is wat van te zeggen. Dat is 34 miljoen per jaar!? Er gaat nog wat gelden om met dat F1-TV-Uitzendrechten zeg. 1,7 miljoen per race (op basis van 20 races)? Dat snapt mijn koppie dan niet meer.

  Waar zoveel miljoen kijkers naar kijken, en de reclame spotjes vooraf en na de race tonnen kosten. Is er voor iemand bekent wat de uitzendrechten voor Wk voetbal of olympische spelen kosten?

  Misschien is er te weinig animo in die regios om F1 te kijken, laat staan ervoor te betalen. Ik weet niet of ze een optie voor nog eens vijf jaar hadden en hoe bindend die dan mogelijk was maar het zou ook een smoes kunnen zijn. In de hotels in Doha zenden ze namelijk ook gewoon via Sky de races uit.

Nou BeIN, je kunt de schuld wel wegschuiven maar wellicht willen mensen je product niet of vinden ze het te duur.

Althans dat is bij mij de reden dat ik geen F1 koop. Het aanbod is me niet interessant.

Tsjaa, als je er een hoge prijs aan hangt wordt het ook interessant om het te stelen.

Weg van de betaalzenders, openbare zenders een lager bedrag vragen, meer kijkers, meer sponsorinkomsten voor de teams en je hebt een win-win-win-win-win situatie. Maar daar moet je wel de ballen voor hebben.
