Het NASCAR-seizoen gaat zondagavond van start met de kwalificatie voor de Daytona 500 en de niet voor het kampioenschap meetellende Clash op Daytona. Corey LaJoie zal met een opvallende auto aan de start staan van de evenementen in de badplaats in Florida.

De Amerikaan van Go Fas Racing zal in Daytona namelijk eenmalig uitkomen met een livery die volledig bestaat uit zijn eigen hoofd en haren. Op de motorkap staat groot het gezicht van LaJoie afgebeeld, op de rest van de auto zijn lange, wapperende lokken te zien. De livery is tot stand gekomen door de sponsor van het team op Daytona: Old Spice, een merk dat zich richt op mannenverzorging en onder andere deodorant en shampoos in het assortiment heeft.

Zaterdag kwam LaJoie voor het eerst in actie met de opvallende bolides tijdens de eerste trainingen voor de Daytona 500, die op 17 februari plaatsvindt. Hij sloot de dag af op de 36e positie, ruim twee seconden langzamer dan snelste man Martin Truex jr.. Volgens LaJoie is sponsor Old Spice de drijvende kracht achter de opvallende kleurstelling. "Ze wilden een opvallende rentree maken in de sport, om te gelijk aandacht te vragen voor de nieuwe mannenshampoo die ze op de markt gebracht hebben", vertelde hij aan Fox Sports.

Leuke aktie, hij moet zelf nog wel wat snelheid vinden om ook sportief gezien publiciteit te halen.

  Ik hoop wel dat ze daadwerkelijk de shampo gebruiken bij het wassen van de auto. Ik vind t ietwat door slaan, maar iedereen heeft het erover dus de livery heeft zijn doel bereikt.

Géén gezicht, vouw je de voorkant op in de muur lijd je gezichtsverlies... Hij wil wel graag op kop rijden... Met je hoofd in de wind is wel weer lekker dan.. Met je koppie racen is wel slim.. Met old Spice een hoofdsponsor in de knip hebben...
