Nicolas Hamilton in zee met hoofdsponsor Williams

Nicolas Hamilton, het broertje van Lewis, zal ook volgend jaar actief zijn in het Brits toerwagen kampioenschap. Hamilton zal rijden in een Ford Focus RS voor Motorbase Performance.

Hamilton reed in 2015 al twaalf races in het BTCC met een Audi S3, aankomend seizoen zal hij bij alle 30 races aan de start verschijnen. Het programma wat Hamilton zal rijden wordt volledig ondersteund door ROKit, de nieuwe sponsor van het Williams Formule 1-team.

De 26 jarige coureur, die een motorische beperking heeft, is uiteraard dolgelukkig met deze kans: "Ik kan niet geloven dat ik dit jaar weer op de grid sta. Ik heb een soort knipperlichtrelatie gehad met het BTCC. De ene keer kon ik wel rijden, de andere keer niet. Ik heb hier en daar in andere auto's gereden, maar ik ben dolblij weer terug te zijn in het BTCC."

"Sinds zes jaar sta ik op eigen benen en dat bevalt me goed. Dat ik dit jaar een volledig seizoen kan draaien laat zien dat ik mijn droom heb kunnen najagen. Ik kon tot voorheen niet een volledig seizoen draaien omdat ik bezig was met mijn stichting. Ik heb hier en daar getest, maar een volledig gefinancierd seizoen is echt een bonus," vertelde Nicolas. Het team zal midden februari de auto voor het eerst aan de tand voelen. Daarna vertrek het team richting Spanje voor een intensieve test, kon autosport melden.

Motorbase Performance teambaas David Bartrum was blij om Nicolas in zijn stal te hebben: "Hij brengt brengt iets extra's bij ons. Hij is ontzettend gepassioneerd en heeft de drive om succes te halen. Zijn manier van doen is erg professioneel en iedereen die in onze omgeving krijgt energie van hem. Hamilton krijgt Tom Chilton (broertje van oud Formule 1-coureur Max Chilton) en Ollie Jackson als teamgenoten.

  Dat is net zo'n aanname als je zegt dat hij daar rijdt vanwege zijn achternaam.
  Zijn beste resultaat tijdens de BTCC in 2015 was een 16e plek. Mijn vermoeden c.q. aanname is dat hij daar rijdt vanwege zijn achternaam.

eeen typische vorm van wave calling , het liften op succes van de achternaam. niks meer of minder, kijk iedereen heeft wel een mening over Mick Schumacher maar die presteerd in ieders geval nog, deze jongen al dan niet met beperking mag meerijden en dat gun ik hem van harte maar ga mij aub niet vertellen dat hij op basis van talent dat stoeltje krijgt!

hetzelfde geld overigens voor het broertje van Vettel al moet ik zeggen dat die tenminste nog iets laat zien.

alleen al het feit dat BEPERKING genoemd wordt laat al zien dat ze zelfs dit willen uitmelken! jammer zo'n jongen moet eigenlijk in bescherming genomen worden en niet vermeld worden met "beperking"want wat is nu een beperking? ik wordt hier gewoon boos over!
