Williams schrapt filmdag, maar ontkracht geruchten over missen testdagen

Fans van Williams hoeven niet te vrezen dat het team ontbreekt tijdens de eerste testdag van 2019. Wel geeft plaatsvervangend teambaas Claire Williams toe dat het team de nieuwe auto niet zal laten rijden tijdens de geplande filmdag van komende zaterdag.

Eerder vandaag kwamen er berichten naar buiten dat Williams in tijdnood zat met de ontwikkeling van de nieuwe FW42. Het team zou daardoor de geplande filmdag van aanstaande zaterdag moeten schrappen en mogelijk ook de eerste dagen van de wintertests in Barcelona missen. Zo ver lijkt het echter niet te komen. Teambaas Claire Williams heeft tegenover F1Today.net gereageerd op de geruchten. In haar reactie laat ze doorschemeren dat het team krap zit qua tijd, maar dat het team gewoon present zal zijn tijdens de eerste dag van de wintertests.

"Zoals iedereen verwachtte, hebben we gedurende deze winter een extreem agressief ontwikkelingsprogramma gedraaid", vertelde Williams. "Daarom hebben het besluit genomen om onze auto niet te laten rijden tijdens onze filmdag komend weekend. Zodoende kunnen we de tijd in de fabriek maximaliseren voordat we op 18 februari beginnen aan de eerste testdag."

      Ik snap Joep wel, ze riepen dat ze dit jaar goed voorbereid waren op de testsessies. In feite betekent het dus dat ze maandagochtend om 9u een shakedown gaan doen. Als ze pech hebben is de eerste testdag dus verloren door issues en glitches in systemen...

      Je kan een prachtige filmdag hebben en dan op testdag 1 schiet er een slang van de hydrauliek los, loopt er een wiel van de auto of slaat de bak vast.
      Daarom is het ook testen. Veel te voorbarig om nu alweer te conclusies te trekken. Misschien nemen ze die tijd juist om de auto goed afgebouwd en gecheckt in Barcelona te hebben ipv alles op alles om een stukje met 100 km/u te mogen rijden op een half circuit met een camera erop.

      Waarom nu weer droevig en zonde....
      Auto was vorig jaar zo slecht dat ze alle tijd gewoon in de wagen steken.
      Beetje leuk rondjes rijden voor een promo filmpje.
      Kunnen ze later ook nog doen.

      Ja Rimmer dat snap ik wel maar als je in een goed team zit kan je goed plannen en zorg je dat deadlines gehaald worden. Nu is de eerste serieuze dag alweer verschoven of afgemeld. Dat zegt iets over het team en dat is niet positief.

      Het is direct geen ramp, maar met zo'n filmdag kun je al wel veel dingen te weet komen over de werking van het een en het ander. Als je iets moet afblazen is nooit iets postief's, en daar heeft @Joeppp gewoon gelijk in.

      @rimmer ; of ze zijn er nog niet uit hoe ze de filmdag inrichten voor film-momenten voor reclame/sponsoren etc.

      Er wordt van alles meteen ook een drama gemaakt he. Zoals bij Renault ook ; "de auto lag nog in stukken".

      Die monteurs kunnen echt snel zo'n auto opbouwen als het moet.

      Ik ben mijn halve leven operationeel- en projectmanager geweest en ik heb ook wel eens een persmoment of promo-activiteit laten schieten omdat ik het belangrijker vond om mijn project goed en op tijd af te ronden. Het zijn keuzes die je maakt...

      Net zo goed als Renault nog niet helemaal klaar is/was, in het verleden had RBR dat ook regelmatig - er is zelfs al eens een apart vliegtuig voor RBR naar Barcelona gevlogen omdat ze niet op tijd klaar waren

    Ach Red Bull moest ook weleens last minute de auto nog in elkaar schroeven. Het komt bij de beste teams voor.

    Ideaal is het absoluut niet, want meestal zorgt het voor weinig kilometers op de eerste testdagen.
