Vettel heel blij na eerste dag: "De auto was ongelooflijk en naderde perfectie"

Sebastian Vettel reed niet alleen de meeste ronden tijdens de eerste dag van de wintertest in Barcelona, de Duitser was ook afgetekend de snelste. Met een tijd van 1:18.161 en 169 ronden in de pocket was de Ferrari-coureur een gelukkig man.

"Ik kan me geen betere start wensen", begon de vice-wereldkampioen van 2018. "De auto was geweldig, hij werkte goed. We hadden geen problemen en we konden zelfs meer dan het programma rijden. Gisteren waren de indicaties ook al goed. Ik voel me er geweldig in, al ben ik wel moe. Ik zal goed slapen vannacht."

Vettel legde daarna uit welk gevoel hij in de auto had: "Ik was heel open-minded. Er werd een hoop geschreven over de nieuwe regels. Ik heb mijn tijd genomen, alhoewel het voor mij heel makkelijk was. Het is nog maar de eerste dag, maar ik moet mijn complimenten geven aan de mensen die deze auto gebouwd hebben. Het komt heel dicht in de buurt van perfectie."

"Ik ben blij met het aantal ronden wat we hebben kunnen rijden. We hebben geen grote problemen gehad." Vettel antwoordde op de vraag van Craig Slater of hij het idee had dat een vijfde wereldtitel tot de mogelijkheden kan behoren: "Het is nog erg vroeg dag. Ik heb net één dag in de auto gezeten. Ik heb betere en mindere jaren gehad. Ik hoop dat we dit jaar veel plezier hebben, dus dat we veel races kunnen winnen. Op dit moment is de wereldtitel nog heel ver weg. Ik ben wel positief betreffende de toekomst."

Over zijn nieuwe teamgenoot vertelde hij: "Ik zie hem als een rivaal. Hij zit niet voor niets bij Ferrari. Je hebt altijd een rivaliteit met je teamgenoot. Ik denk dat je moet samenwerken om het team vooruit te helpen. Desondanks is het een aardige knul en ik ben er zeker van dat hij me onder druk kan zetten. Iedereen is verschillend, maar ik ken hem nog niet als teamgenoot. Ik ben zelf geen gecompliceerd persoon, ik ben niet degene die de problemen zoekt. Ik kijk er naar uit om met hem te rijden voor Ferrari."

Ben stiekem wel een beetje bang dat Leclerc idd voor onrust en chaos kan gaan zorgen bij Ferrari, zoals Villeneuve al zei.

Ik hoop natuurlijk dat Max die titel pakt maar als dat niet lukt dan eender welke Ferrari coureur. Dat zou hoe dan ook feest worden in huize Rimmer.
Ben stiekem wel een beetje bang dat Leclerc idd voor onrust en chaos kan gaan zorgen bij Ferrari, zoals Villeneuve al zei.
Binotto is briljante man maar kan hij ook dat soort persoonlijke vetes managen?
Laat Leclerc zich naar het tweede plan schuiven als hij zicht heeft op de titel en Vettel valt een keer uit?
Laat Vettel het gebeuren dat iemand anders dan hijzelf Ferrari kampioen maakt?
Kan en wil Ferrari Leclerc beteugelen aangezien hij hun toekomst vertegenwoordigd?
Als Ferrari de sterkste auto heeft dan gaan deze kwesties 100% spelen.
We zagen het in het verleden al zo vaak gebeuren. Senna/Prost Alonso/Hamilton Rosberg/Hamilton en nu Vettel/Leclerc?
Gaat Lewis dan weer lachend als derde met de titel aan de haal? Of wordt het die duivelse Max alsnog?

  Mooie analyse, waar ik me wel in kan vinden.
  Als Ferrari het zelf goed aanpakt, zal het van een titanenstrijd tussen beiden niet komen.
  Maar Vettel heeft het zelf in de hand, presteert hij wat minder en rijdt LeClerc de pannen van het dak, ja dan is een clash onvermijdelijk.

  Bij Ferrari is altijd hierargie geweest, dus ik verwacht dat het Leclerc echt wel duidelijk is gemaakt dat er tot nader order met Vettel wordt gestreden om het drivers kampioenschap en dat het Leclerc zijn taak is om zoveel mogelijk punten te halen zonder ze onnodig van Vettel af te snoepen. Als jongste bediende heb je je daar naar te schikken. Zijn tijd komt nog wel.

  Leclerc zit in zijn tweede seizoen. Vettel is een van de grootste allertijden. Vettel heeft niets te vrezen en Ferrari heeft niets om zich zorgen om te maken. Dat gaat allemaal heel natuurlijk verlopen daar.
