Sauber en Charouz presenteren coureurs voor F2-, F3- en F4-avontuur

Sauber heeft bekend gemaakt welke coureurs komend seizoen voor het team actief zullen zijn in de juniorenklassen. Vanaf het nieuwe seizoen werkt het Zwitserse team in de opstapklassen samen met Charouz Racing System, dat in de Formule 2 en Formule 3 actief is. In de Formule 4 werkt Sauber samen met US Racing.

Callum Ilott zal in 2019 voor Charouz in de Formule 2 actief zijn. Daar krijgt de Brit gezelschap van Juan-Manuel Correa. Lirim Zendelli zal het Formule 3-team van Charouz gaan leiden. Daar krijgt de Duitse Formule 4-kampioen gezelschap van Fabio Scherer en Raoul Hyman.

Ilott reed onder andere voor Van Amersfoort Racing in het verleden. Afgelopen jaar kwam de Brit uit in de GP3-series. Hij finishte het kampioenschap als derde, achter zijn teamgenoten Anthoine Hubert en Nikitia Mazepin.

"Tijdens hun debuutjaar in de Formule 2 toonde Charouz snelheid", vertelde Illot. "Ze reden een uitstekend seizoen en maakten weinig fouten. Ik ben ontzettend blij dat ze interesse in mij toonden en heb deze kans dan ook met beide handen aangepakt."

Lirim Zendelli reed het ADAC Duits Formule 4-kampioenschap. Hij won de titel. Zendelli zal samen met Fabio Scherer de kleuren van het team verdedigen. Aziatisch Formule 3-kampioen Raoul Hyman is de derde coureur in het team.

In de Formule 4 sluit Sauber zich aan bij US Racing, het team van Ralf Schumacher. Het team zal dit jaar het Duitse en Italiaanse Formule 4-kampioenschap gaan rijden. Roman Stanek, Theo Pourchaire en Alessandro Ghiretti, de huidige teamgenoot van Rinus van Kalmthout in de Asian Formule 3-winterseries, zullen voor dit team uitkomen.

  Dat vroeg ik me nou ook al af.. zou niet echt logisch zijn. Ik zou eerder gewoon de naam van de teams aanhouden, en dan Alfa reclame op de auto zetten.
  
  Of het Alfa Romeo Charouz Racing en Alfa Romeo US Racing noemen...
  
  De naam Sauber heeft er nog maar weinig mee te maken...
