Vettel na crash: "Kon niets doen om deze impact te vermijden"

De woensdagochtend van Sebastian Vettel was eerder voorbij dan dat hij zelf gehoopt had. Een crash gooide roet in het eten. De Ferrari-coureur vertelde aan onder andere GPToday.net dat hij het ongeluk, dat veroorzaakt werd door een kapotte wielophanging, niet kon voorkomen.

Iets na 11 uur veroorzaakte Vettel de derde rode vlag van de woensdag. De Ferrari-coureur was in bocht 3 in de bandenstapels terechtgekomen, nadat zijn linker voorwielophanging op behoorlijk hoge snelheid de geest had gegeven. Daarmee veroorzaakte Vettel een onderbreking van 40 minuten, terwijl de SF90 de nodige schade opliep.

Onder lunchtijd vertelde Vettel aan de verzamelde media, waaronder GPToday.net, hoe hij het incident beleefde. "Ik ging de derde bocht in en bij mijn weten was er een probleem met het linker voorkant van de auto. Er was niets wat ik kon doen om deze impact te vermijden. Ik had niet meer de controle over de auto en ik gleed recht op de omheining af."

"We proberen koste wat kost te achterhalen wat er gebeurde. Het was veel prettiger geweest als er een grote uitloopstrook zou zijn, want je kan je natuurlijk wel voorstellen dat er veel schade is door de klap. We moeten heel voorzichtig zijn en achterhalen wat de oorzaak is. Iedereen is daarnaar aan het kijken, zowel hier op het circuit als in Maranello. Het is erg teleurstellend voor ons."

Ondanks het ongeluk blijft Vettel positief over de nieuwe bolide van Ferrari. "Over het geheel is onze auto erg goed. We hebben sinds de eerste dag veel dingen geprobeerd en de eerste week was erg productief. Dinsdagmiddag konden we wat van de verloren tijd in de ochtend inhalen, dus ik heb nog steeds een positief gevoel over de auto."

  En meteen vragen voor een lange uitloopstrook. Vroeger waren dat allemaal grindbakken en dat hoort er gewoon bij. Coureurs zijn allesbehalve helden tegenwoordig.

  gewoon slecht vertaald. Vettel bedoelde dat er doordat hij hard in de bandenstapels kwam veel schade was aan de voorkant, waardoor de oorzaak van de crash moeilijk(er) te achterhalen is.

  Het zou ook zomaar kunnen dat hij echt baalt dat de wagen daardoor een pak meer schade heeft he.. Wat dat met helden zijn te maken heeft is mij een raadsel. Of denk je dat die mannen vroeger helden waren omdat ze reden met het idee te kunnen sterven? Die wilden dat evenmin, getuige het gelobby van onder meer Stewart en Ickx om de veiligheid te verbeteren.

  Hier moet ik je wel gelijk in geven, je kreeg gister (deels terecht) een hoop shit over je heen, maar hier heb je gelijk....geen woord wordt er gerept over de crash van Vettel....had bij Max/RBR moeten gebeuren, nou dan was hier de pleuris uitgebroken...;)
  Kwam wel goed uit dat RBR gistermiddag een probleem kreeg, zo kon de aandacht daar volledig naartoe.
