Russell: "Iedereen moet keihard werken om het geheel tot een succes te maken"

Williams-coureur George Russell reed vandaag zijn grootste aantal ronden van deze wintertest. De jonge Brit legde in totaal 140 ronden af op het circuit van Barcelona. Met een tijd van 1:18.130 gaf hij uiteindelijk bijna twee seconden toe op de snelste tijd van Charles Leclerc.

Russel kende een probleemloze dag en was blij met de simulaties die hij heeft kunnen doen. "We hebben een goede dag gehad. Ik ben ontzettend gemotiveerd voor Melbourne en ik hoop dat we morgen opnieuw veel ronden kunnen voltooien."

Hij vertelde ook dat hij op een vrij krap schema zit ten opzichte van de eerste race van het seizoen in Melbourne. "Alles is heel snel gekomen. Ik vertrek volgende week vrijdag. In de tussentijd zal ik met het team alle data analyseren en heb ik ook nog een aantal simulatorsessies."

"We hebben nog wel flink wat werk te doen, want we liepen echt enorm achter op de rest", vertelde hij toen hem gevraagd werd of hij zich heeft kunnen settelen. "Ik wil nog jaren in de Formule 1 actief zijn, dus ik kan nog niet relaxen. Ik wil alles geven om met deze auto resultaten te halen."

Russell gaf eveneens aan dat hij de impact van de Formule 1 heeft, niet verwachtte. "De auto en de sport is heel complex. Je werkt met 700 mensen samen. Iedereen zal moeten werken om het geheel tot een succes te maken."

"We hebben een grote stap gemaakt sinds ik vorige week in de auto ben gestapt. We weten welke problemen we hebben en wat me moeten veranderen", sloot de Formule 2-kampioen van 2018 af.

  Ik schat Russell ook hoger in...beide zijn talentvol, maar Russell komt meer over als een teamspeler.
