Charles Leclerc vrij om het gevecht met Sebastian Vettel aan te gaan

Ferrari-teambaas Mattia Binotto heeft tijdens een interview vertelt dat Charles Leclerc "free to fight' is in 2019. Eerder kwamen er berichten naar boven dat Vettel 'voorgetrokken' zou worden mocht de situatie zich aandienen. Leclerc heeft Kimi Raikkonen vervangen en zal in 2019 naast Sebastian Vettel de nieuwe SF90 besturen. De voormalig Sauber-coureur kende een goede wintertest en was vrij rap op snelheid.

Het statement van Ferrari over de "bijzondere situaties" werd door sommige geïnterpreteerd als een erkenning dat de 21-jarige coureur zou worden gedegradeerd naar een ondersteunende rol bij Ferrari. Binotto heeft de situatie nu anders uitgelegd: "Natuurlijk zijn de twee vrij om te vechten. Wij gaan Charles natuurlijk niet vragen om langzamer te gaan of Sebastian sneller te gaan (dan hem). Ze zullen allebei tot het uiterste moeten gaan."

Binotto vervolgde: "Maar, als er sprake is van een dubbelzinnige situatie aan het begin van het seizoen, is het Sebastiaan die meer ervaring heeft. Hij is al vele jaren bij ons en heeft kampioenschappen gewonnen. Hij is onze kampioen", vertelde hij. Binotto hoopt dat het maken van Vettel's 'prioriteit' status een duidelijk signaal is van Ferrari. De Italiaanse renstal kreeg het afgelopen seizoen veel kritiek omtrent de tactische beslissingen.

"Ik denk dat het ook goed is voor Ferrari", vertelde Binotto. "Als alle bedoelingen vanaf het begin van het seizoen duidelijk zijn, zul je minder fouten maken als je in bepaalde situaties komt." De Ferrari SF90 was gedurende de wintertest de snelste auto van het veld. Charles Leclerc heeft een uitstekend tempo getoond tijdens zijn tijd in de auto. "Charles is een goede, zekere en snelle coureur. Hier in Barcelona richtte hij zich op om de auto te begrijpen. Hij werkte uitstekend samen met het nieuwe team en zijn ingenieurs."

"Ik denk niet dat een relatieve strijd tussen Sebastian en Charles zal plaatsvinden. Belangrijker voor ons is het om deze auto te begrijpen. Ze hebben beide zeer vergelijkbare tijden gereden. We wisten al van zijn tijd bij Sauber dat Charles een snelle jongen is. Hij is al vele jaren bij ons in de stal. Ik denk niet dat Charles in dat opzicht een verrassing is. Het is niet het test in Barcelona dat ons vertelt heeft dat hij de juiste keuze voor ons was", sloot hij af.

zoals al jaren en jaren het geval is hebben ze een eerste en tweede rijder vraag maar aan de voorgangers zoals kimi en Barrichello .
hij mag het gevecht wel aangaan met vettel zolang vettel maar wind mocht deze uitvallen mag hij voor de overwinning gaan .

Dat klinkt allemaal leuk en aardig. en ik hoop het ook. En dit is ook wel leuk om te zien. Maar het verleden heeft uitgewezen dat het niet al te slim is. Het is niet zo dodelijk als je geen echte kans maakt(RB afgelopen 3 jaar) maar als je echt kampioen wilt worden en je wilt hamilton/en/of verstappen verslaan dan zal Vettel gewoon de eerste rijder moeten zijn. Want ik heb het idee dat dat bij RB en Mercedes wel gewoon duidelijk is. Niet dat ik het er mee eens bent en ik vind gevechten juist mooi maar met het oog op een titel...... verleden jaar gingen ze daar al de ´fout´ in. Ik schrijf fout tussen haakjes omdat ik het zelf gewoon normaal vind dat er keihard gevochten wordt.

ik ben er nu al bang voor dat heet hoofd vettel er en potje van gaat maken. vorig jaar liet hij verschillende keren zien slecht tegen ze verlies te kunnen. trouwens het jaar daar voor ook al. dus aan verstappen zou ik mee willen geven om bij vettel uit de buurt te blijven. deze gaat weer rijden als en ongeleide projectiel als ze daar niet uit kijken

  gewoon erachter blijven dus? Volgens mij wat het vorig jaar Verstappen die Vettel in China in de rondte tikte? En Verstappen die na contact met Hamilton en Ricciardo 2x uitviel. Vettel heeft volgens mij alleen Bottas zn race verknald in Frankrijk, andere incidenten had ie alleen zichzelf mee.

  Ben het met je eens behalve die situatie van Hamilton. Hamilton had gewoon ontzettend veel geluk en had hem nooit moeten laten staan 8 van de 10 keer zou Hamilton grote schade gehad hebben.
