Carey maakt zich geen zorgen over aflopende contracten met vijf races

Na het seizoen 2019 lopen de contracten van vijf Grands Prix af, maar de Formule 1 maakt zich daar geen zorgen om. Voorzitter Chase Carey meent dat deze situatie niet uniek is, omdat dit tot op zekere hoogte ieder jaar het geval is.

Na 2019 lopen de contracten van vier Europese grands prix af: dat zijn de races in Groot-Brittannië, Duitsland, Spanje en Italië. Daarnaast is ook de Grand Prix van Mexico in gevaar, omdat de overheid van het Latijns-Amerikaanse land de financiële steun voor het evenement stopzet. Carey maakt zich echter niet echt druk over de vijf aflopende contracten. De Amerikaan vertelde tijdens een conference call met investeerders dat Liberty Media tot nu toe elk jaar op het laatste moment aan het onderhandelen was voor nieuwe deals.

"We hebben contracten waarvan 2019 het laatste jaar is en we moeten daar een nieuwe overeenkomst bereiken, of onze eigen wegen kiezen. Er is eigenlijk niets uniek aan die situatie. Vorig jaar hadden we een aantal contractverlengingen, net als het jaar ervoor. Bij elk contract zijn er verschillende problemen. Dat is het proces waar we nu in zitten met de verlengingen voor 2020: elk jaar zijn er drie of vier onderhandelingen die we moeten doorstaan."

Een van de belangrijkste struikelblokken in de onderhandelingen zijn de hoge fees die de organisatoren aan de Formule 1 moeten betalen. Dat alle vijf races zullen verdwijnen, is vrijwel uitgesloten, maar toch is het niet ondenkbaar dat één of twee races in 2020 niet meer op de kalender staan. Carey denkt dat de sport goed in staat is om die verliezen op te vangen met nieuwe races, zoals de race in Vietnam en een mogelijke terugkeer naar Nederland.

"We hebben een aantal jaren achter de kiezen en ik denk dat we redelijk goed zitten met onze weg en onze kunnen om een gezond bedrijf te zijn. Wij denken dat er ruimte is om iets aan de kalender toe te voegen. Over de hele wereld zijn er plaatsen die een Grand Prix willen organiseren. Dat geldt niet alleen voor nieuwe markten, maar ook voor traditionele markten in West-Europa."

Commotie of niet, hier het laatste nieuwtje .... de officiele naam voor de GP in Zandvoort wordt de ‘Heineken Dutch GP!

het zal me werkelijk verbazen als Mexico op de lijst blijft staan! wat ik persoonlijk erg jammer zal vinden voor de rest ach de Dutsc GP zal er wel bijkomen en wat afvalt wordt opgevult met landen met een uniek historisch raceverleden zoal Vietnam

ongelofelijk jammer dat er op deze manier veel historische landen van de kaart verdwijnen en dat geld de dienst gaat uitmaken!

F1 zal verliezen moeten nemen :) alleen banen zoals Vietnam die overhyped gaan en te veel gaan betalen maakt voor de rest kapot.
